“Overnight Sat 26th October”

We had two rooms (single & double) for one night whilst attending a sporting event at Hylands Park.....both rooms were very clean, comfortable, quiet, a little small but for one night absolutely fine. En suite was spotless and probably recently fitted out. Tea and coffe facilities in each room.
The manager (Sue) was very helpful. Parking is on the street but proved no problem to park almost outside....a permit is available from the hotel for a modest fee.
The hotel is literally a minutes walk from a high street with eating places, pubs, takeaways, convenience stores etc and appeared to be.less than a 5 min walk to the town centre at the bottom of the road.
Overall a good experience and would recommend.

Let's start with the good stuff. Very friendly and helpful owner. Breakfast was excellent. Parking is on the street and in a controlled zone, but for a small payment, the owner goes out with the relevant permits and changes them as necessary during the day. The place was very clean and very convenient for shopping centre, restaurants and the county cricket ground, which was why we were there.
The downside: Our room had a double and a single bed. The double bed was pushed up against the wall, with no room along the base, so the only way I could get in and out of it was to climb over my husband. There was nowhere for me to put a glass of water or anything else by the bed. Secondly, we had a nice en-suite, but the 'public' shower was next to our room. The plumbing in this shower made a screech that set your teeth on edge, which was not what you want at 6 am.

Room Tip: If you go with your partner - don't have room 5

Stayed in the hotel for one night on a cycling trip. Accommodation was comfortable, clean, good breakfast and centrally positioned. It's a functional hotel/guest house that would is ideal for business or a one-night stop-over, it is not in the luxurious category.
Not to keen on being asked for payment on arrival.

I also stayed here last Saturday for one night to attend the same engagement party. I completely agree with the review below. I also got the on-suit room, £40.00.

The room was spotless, and the bed was REALLY comfy!. The bathroom was large, modern and also SPOTLESS. The bathroom has a walk-in shower which was lovely.
Plenty of wardrobe space also in the room. TV had plenty of stations to watch.

The breakfast was Gorgeous, full english breakfast to start the day!.

I truly couldnt find any fault with the Chelmer and would recommend it highly..

As a young single girl travlling on her own to a town I had never visited before, I was very cautious in deciding where to stay. I rang a few B&Bs in Chemlsford, but Sue was the only person who immediately struck me as very helpful and able to be flexible with my situation. On arrival, I found this hotel to be very warm, welcoming and clean. I was given two rooms during my 2 weekend stays in Chelmsford, each of which were on the top floor at the front of the house (Bedrooms 1 and 8). Both rooms were very clean and comfortable, with a tv, tea and coffee (plenty of!) and sink. There was lots of stroage space in the rooms, with bedside tables, chest of drawers and wardrobe space. I decided to not have an en-suite room, but the bathrooms (there are two toilets and two showers) were very clean and always available. There is also shower gel, shampoo and conditioner provided in the bathrooms as well as clean towels which are replaced every day. The breakfast was amazing and Sue was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was situated right in town and perfect for my needs. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and will be staying here again if I ever need to go back to Chelmsford!

A very reasonable hotel but the friendliness makes it a 5/5. Sue is a lovely host who makes you feel very welcome. Nothing is too much trouble for her and she genuinly enjoys the company of the guests. The rooms are very reasonable and have a TV with many channels, decent beds, tea and coffee making facilities and an en-suit bathroom with shower cubical. Breakfast is included in the price and served 7-8AM on weekdays and 8-9AM on weekends. A full English is availible at no extra cost and was of very high quality. The location is not bad just off Moulsham street and about a 5 minute walk to town. Don't listen to the bad press (which I genuinly do not understand), this place is a hidden gem!
