“Dog owners not welcome”
Review of Hylands House

Hylands House

The park is lovely and I would have rated it 5 stars but unfortunately Chelmsford Council have had the great wisdom to ban dog owners from using the courtyard cafe and toilets. This will no doubt mean the cafe probably won't survive unless it is subsidised by the tax payer (dog owners are the main people using the cafe when the weather isn't great). A shame these places are always spoilt by clueless politicians.

I spend a lot of time at Hylands with my children. The park is massive with great facilities for the children, a wonderful play park and even when my children have been in the middle of flower bed we have not been told of by the staff once! Worth paying my council tax for!!!!

This is a review of the Cafe and not Hylands itself. The grounds, children's play area are great but a shame they have now chosen to ban dogs from the OUTSIDE Cafe area. They actually had security there stopping people with dogs from going in!

The new overspill area is no good if you want to use the toilets. You have to leave your dog tied up out of sight. You also have to carry your food/hot drinks all the way round to the back which is a real health and safety issue.

This was a decision apparently made by Councillor Nicolette Chambers, Conservative Councillor for Chelmsford Council. She claims that 3 waitresses were bitten but this is untrue and has been confirmed by the Cafe themselves. However, the Cafe are happy to go along with the decision. They conveniently forget that the dog walkers have kept their business going through the cold, wet winter months! Makes me wonder why ......

Beautiful place in which to walk your dog and you used to be able to sit outside in the lovely courtyard area and enjoy the ambience there with your dog by your side. Not any more. Due to an ''overcrowding'' issue, dogs are no longer welcome in the courtyard area. There is now an 'overspill' area round the back which is where dog walkers are allowed to go. The ambience is not comparable.
Also, if you need to use the toilet, you now have to leave your dog unattended and out of sight. Not a welcome change at all. Such a shame.
