“Lovely place, shame about the recent changes”
Review of Hylands House

Beautiful place in which to walk your dog and you used to be able to sit outside in the lovely courtyard area and enjoy the ambience there with your dog by your side. Not any more. Due to an ''overcrowding'' issue, dogs are no longer welcome in the courtyard area. There is now an 'overspill' area round the back which is where dog walkers are allowed to go. The ambience is not comparable.
Also, if you need to use the toilet, you now have to leave your dog unattended and out of sight. Not a welcome change at all. Such a shame.

Hylands House has been restored to its former glory and sits in beautiful grounds and landscaped gardens ideal for walks, picnics or fun with the kids. The House is available for private hire (many beautiful weddings attended here) and hosts several social events both in the day and evening including concerts, murder mystery evenings and arts and crafts throughout the year. Outdoor events include the famous annual V Festival, farmer's market and various other concerts. Something for everyone to be enjoyed here!

Set in a very pleasant park and squeezed between chelmsford and the pretty village of Writtle. Little thought put into how the building is presented, interior just looks like council offices

Hylands House is a beautifully restored grade ll listed building, it was was in decay for many years until our local council bought Hylands and restored the house over several phases it to the lovely building it is today.

Hylands Park is a wonderful open space, great for long and short walks or for walking dogs and Hylands house has lovely formal gardens to visit too. There is always a lot going on at Hylands House, a monthly Farmers Market, craft and wedding fairs and they have special events for Fathers day etc and plays and murder mysteries in the house too and well as ghost tours for the brave !!!.

In the courtyard there is a second hand bookshop, a vistor centre and shop and stables which sometimes have the lovely heavy horses in them. Also there is a very popular cafe where visitors can buy snacks & hot meals and they stock the popular Rossi's icecream too. Above the visitor centre are various craft concessions offering an attractive and varied range of goods to buy, from glassware, jewellery and paintings and they often hold workshops for people to partake in too.

The park is used for several concerts in the Summer and it hosts the V Festival every year.

A real local gem and a lovely place to while away an hour or two..
