BnB wasn't as hard to find as other review suggested, but is a bit unusual as I was let in by some of the nursery school staff from next door (they use the garden during the day). It's a really lovely old building, but is in need of repair. Peter, the owner/manager (?) was friendly and welcoming and made sure I knew how to operate the front door. My room was not the cleanest & there seemed to be small bits of the celing falling throughout the room (and throughout the night). The bed was UNBELIEVABLY lumpy and I hardly slept at all. Breakfast the next day was equally as disappointing. The bathrooms are also very unclean and in need of a scrub. I get the impression there are people living at the BnB permanently as there are some personal effects in the bathrooms. I didn't risk having a shower as it looked quite grubby. I met an elderly couple over breakfast & the lady said she felt like she'd done nothing but clean since she arrived the previous day. Even though it's cheap, it's worthwhile spending a few extra £££ for something nicer than this.

I stayed there as it was very close to a wedding reception which I was attending near by. I arrived just after dark (17:30), It was quite hard to spot the place, and even harder to work out how to get in, as the door bell can’t be heard from all parts of the house, therefore getting in was a lot harder than it should have been. Once in the place, the rooms were a bit stuffy, but I suppose that is kinda expected from a house of it’s age (400 years old in parts). Some refurbishment is needed, and some of the sinks look a bit worn. The floors are very dusty, and could do with a good clean. The next problem was getting out (or should that be getting in). The B&B doesn’t provide external entry keys, you have to remember a very cryptic entry code. It took me a while to get used to how to get back in. Once I knew how it worked, I managed to leave for the wedding reception.

The only other point to mention is the breakfast. You are first asked to ONLY pick 4 items you want for the full english breakfast the night before. In the morning when it arrives, it is TERRIBLE. Burnt and really cheap produce. I did feel ill afterwards. Avoid the hot breakfast.

I wouldn’t be in a hurry to stay there again.

This place could be wonderful, but lets itself down with poor cleanliness and poor service. There was debris (dirty cotton wool and medical packaging) in one of the drawers, and when we switched on the bedside light we could see the dust and some long blond hairs attached to the lampshade ( neither of us have long blonde hair!). We didn't realise there were no ensuite facilities and there were no individual consumables, which left us in a bit of a predicament. The 'buffet' area of the dining room was non too welcoming; the teapot was stuck to the surface and having made ourselves a pot of tea (which we had been invited to do) there was no more water for anyone else to make themselves a drink. The cooked breakfast was reasonable, but we saw no staff in the dining room until the proprietor appeared with the food. All guests were served at once, (we had to choose our breakfast from a tick list when we arrived) and there was no time to refill the kettle until all the meals had been distributed. We felt embarrassed that this place may be the first impression foreign visitors may have of England and it would seem the Tourist Board has not been there for some time. We would not return to this hostelry and recommend that you find somewhere else to stay. The only redeeming feature was that the bed was very comfortable.
