“IN LIQUIDATION”
Review of The Whitehall Restaurant - CLOSED

The Whitehall Restaurant
The Whitehall Restaurant
Cuisines: International
Description: As you arrive at the stunning Whitehall Hotel you’ll first be struck by the feeling that you’re heading less for an airport town hotel than a friend’s impressive home. Hidden away in the beautiful village of Dunmow, just outside Stanstead, The Whitehall offers a nationally renowned restaurant as well as those well appointed rooms. The fifteenth century dining hall surroundings are near perfect with light wood beams and arches set in to white walls and stripped floor boards beneath neatly dressed tables. Both guests and locals dine on a combination of hearty British dishes and more exotic Mediterranean fayre beautifully presented and perfectly cooked.

“IN LIQUIDATION”
Reviewed May 9, 2012

We should have had our wedding here in two weeks. Its a joke we found out from a friend on facebook- we wouldnt have Known otherwise. We should be making our final plans but now we are without a venue with 2 weeks to go!!!

I think Brooks Hotels is the "Holding company" from info I can find on the net, and is still trading under that name. Albermarle Hotels who has gone into liquidation was a subsidary company and was obviously used to stop the other Brooks hotels from going bust. I think its disgraceful. The owner just locked up and chucked the keys in a bush. I would never stay in any other of the Brooks Hotels after what has happened and I hope they get what they deserve!

“Chef refused our order”
Reviewed May 3, 2012

We asked for no pepper to be added on the food as our family doesn't eat pepper, the chef refused to do this and added pepper. The meal wasn't eaten and no apology from staff

“Nice venue, amateur service and terrible food”
Reviewed July 10, 2011

We went for Sunday lunch to celebrate a promotion. We used to visit a few years ago and expected the food and service to be as good as it used to be. We were however shocked with the food quality and for the first time in my life I, along with another person in the party, sent the food back with the explanation that the main was inedible. Both my in-laws sruggled through, although complained afterwards. The food was dry and very school dinner like and I felt like I was eating food that had been cooked the day before and left somewhere nasty before being microwaved and served.
This was after getting one of the worst starters I have ever experienced, poor mushrooms in a bowl with raw onions (not quite the description on the menu).
We had to ask for bread, which apparently came with some of the dishes (although it was not hot or crusty) and this was dumped very unceremoniously without any form of butter.
The waitress was embarassed and we felt for her as it cannot be nice servcing such dire cuisine to paying customers.
Desert was OK but the assumption has to be that this was bought in.
We got the impression that the place is run by kids, who have little or no idea of how to run a restaurent. Better food at burger king - highly disappointed as we used to like going here. Not sure about the Hotel, however the restaurant was appalling.
The only good point was the location and the wine, which was reasonably priced.

“Great Service”
Reviewed March 29, 2010

We got married a few weeks ago at the hotel, and I have to say our day was fantastic, this was due to the faultless service we received from the staff at the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble, and we were put at ease the whole day, everything was taken care of by the staff. Even when they set up the resturant for our wedding breakfast, the attention to detail was fab! Tables looked stunning. The food that was served at our wedding reception was georgeous, as was the evening buffett and the choice of breakfasts the next morning. All the guest that stayed overnight commented on how lovely the rooms were and the brilliant service we had received.
They gave us a day to remember!!!!
Many Thanks to all the Staff at the Whitehall Hotel.
