Description: When it comes to roast dinners, we really know our stuff. Every day our chefs lay on a feast of tender, hand-carved meats with all the trimmings - including towering Yorkshire puds, golden roasties with all those lovely little crunchy bits, and plenty of freshly prepared veg, all crowned with proper gravy. So it's no wonder we're Brentwood's favourite carvery restaurant.

Disappointed is not the right word! Not having been to this Toby Carvery for some time I found that the new decor has totally taken away any atmosphere that it used to have. Now we have to queue for a long time just like cattle... This time there was no turkey. There were no peas so we had to ask. There was no Cauliflower. No cabbage. No Yorkshire puddings. No mashed potato. When they finally replenished it all the potato was cold just as if it had just been brought out of the fridge. The parsnips were just about luke warm as was the rest. The meat was terrible. What we had was fatty beef and tough pork. (even the couple behind us remarked that my wife should have refused what was put on the plate) And finally there was no gravy at all. It had to be asked for three times by different people. The carver looked as if he couldn't care less while he enjoyed chewing his chewing gum. After having been there now for many years I can't say how disappointed and disgusted I was with how we found it . A complaint to a member of staff was totally shrugged off as if to give the impression that we were complaining about nothing. The waiter was actually embarrassed when I spoke to him because he said that nearly everybody had commented about the state of things and that it wasn't down to him but the management. I will give praise where praise is due but this was a really unpleasant meal for which we had to pay. Only pigs might have enjoyed it. This was on a wednesday at 6 pm on 20 March 2013. They don't have a rating for minus five unfortunately. I now wish we had just left our plates and simply walked out. We will go elsewhere from now on. (Shame. When we had our wedding reception there some time ago it was brilliant.) John and Barbara.

Went there for Sunday lunch with a group of 7 , had a great meal, nice food but the queue for the carvery were very long. That's my only critism really, it was the last day of opening before a re-fit so maybe that's the reason for the queues . Staff were very attentive so overall am ok experience.

We've been to this carvery on several occasions and every time has been great. The food is hot, plentiful, well cooked, well presented and always a winner. The staff are friendly and helpful despite the fact that every Sunday the place is packed to the rafters. Parking although large, is limited owing to the sheer numbers of visitors so if you're visiting on a Sunday be prepared to a) wait / search for parking, b) wait for a table and c) queue to get to the carvery food. Even with all that, it's still worth the wait. At weekends, the car park over the road (council staff parking) is open to public parking. I don't know if you can book in advance, but if you can, and you're planning a visit of a Sunday, it's worth doing. Also, for those patrons with the larger appetite, you can supersize your meal on a Sunday to a what can only be described as a serving platter sized plate... This accomodated my son's veracious appetite nicely.
