“Beautiful location,food and service”
Reviewed April 15, 2014

We have been staying at the Brickwall once or twice a year for several years now and just returned from our latest stay which was fabulous. We experienced a 'night at the opera' along with our meal on Friday which was surprisingly fun and entertaining. The food is exquisite at the Brickwall, always beautifully cooked and served and using local meat, fish and vegetables.
The hotel is situated in a tiny quiet village within easy reach of the coast;Rye,Hastings,Eastbourne and the South Downs Way. Gardens and castles abound;Bodiam,Sissinghurst,Great Dixter to name a few!
Don't miss the organic vineyard up the road..free tasting and the Sedlescombe Regent is beautiful.
We feel the best rooms are in the main house, this time we stayed in Room 7 overlooking the village green and resident geese with four poster bed and panelled windows;a taste of times past.
Thank you..very much refreshed as usual

Our fourth visit was not so much planned but in response to an e mail offer we couldn't resist bearing in mind we love coming here. We love the place, the staff the rooms and the food is exceptional always. The consistency is what impresses us

Room Tip: we prefer the newer part but if you are into beams ask to be in the main house. if you are a tourist...

My boyfriend and I were staying at the Brickwall Hotel for my uncle's 70th birthday dinner. The dinner itself was fab. The food was great and the staff were brilliant. Unfortunately our room wasn't so great. It was above the main restaurant, which was incredibly noisy. It was also rather worn and tired looking. There was a lot of evidence of damp on the walls, including around a plug socket! The bed was quite uncomfortable and seemed to either be on a tilt or somehow dipped in the middle. Also, to enter the room there was a slight step down, which was not highlighted so resulted in us tripping down into the bedroom. The general setting was really nice, but the hotel itself seemed really rather tired and in need or a bit of re-doing. It definitely wasn't worth the price we paid for one night's accommodation.

Celebrating husbands 50th birthday meal with family in the garden room. There was 17 guests altogether. Aldo & team extremely helpful with a few awkward adjustments to the menu. Food was lovely & service was very good. Garden room was a little cold but staff decorated it beautifully.
Would recommend to friends and would return.

I found the food to be excellent but the drinks expensive especially wine by the glass!! This could and in my case make it unlikely that I would visit again. Service is good but staff not too attentive at large functions - my table of 10 was served all except for me some of my fellow diners had finished before I got my meal,

The Brickwall hotel is perfect if you need a quiet weekend away. It's surrounded by gorgeous hoses with one confectionary shop close by and a beauty salon and a pub. We was greeted by a friendly smile, everything was explained to us and we were given a short tour or the hotel before being given our room key. We stayed in room number one which is a large room and is very well kept, comfortable king size bed, relaxing bath which also has a shower. you are left with a selection of bath things, shoe polish and other little essentials. tea and biscuits in the room which is handy if you don't fancy sitting downstairs. the lounge has a gorgeous setting and the chairs are comfy to snuggle into and get stuck into a good book. although it was a cold weekend the hotel was warm and heating was put on in our room to make it nice and toasty. We settled into the bar and had a few drinks and played some cards, then poped up to the room for a nap before dinner. Dinner was packed which is always a good sign, there was a couple of celebrations going on which was also nice to see. The tables are lit with a candle and the lights are dimmed if you want them to be. the waitor's and waitresses go out of there way to ensure you have everything you need. you are asked about drinks, offered bread and served a sorbet (we had mango) before your main course. When we first saw the price of the meal we weren't too impressed as we realised it was quite a high class place and worried we wouldn't get enough food for the price however we were very much mistaken! we ordered the chicken stuffed with cheese wrapped in bacon which comes with vegetables and it was absolutely delicious and there was enough that you knew you didn't need any more, it is brought out separately and served freshly infront of you. The vegetables were gorgeous and we then understood the price! We then had desert which again was gorgeous and you couldn't fault any of it or the way it is served to you. Breakfast in the morning was the same, you had a choice of cold breakfast buffet or freshly cooked hot food. Checkout was simple and easy. I will definitely be returning here as it's such a lovely get away! it would be perfect for a small wedding or naming ceremony if you are looking for a location to hold a party. Everyone is helpful and I cannot say that I found any fault on my weekend away!

Room Tip: We had room 1 and loved it!

We stayed at the Brickwall Hotel for 2 nights at the end of December. The room was pleasant and very clean with a lovely view over the village green and a very comfortable bed. The breakfast was excellent as was the service. However, what really made our stay and stood out for us was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Julio and Aldo, in particular, were fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Not only are they both very professional but they are able to find time to dedicate to everyone. We really felt at home there.
