The staff and management are the most helpful I have come across, good food and great breakfast, room appeared to be spotlessly clean. Would definitely reccomend. Nice country setting. Even a log fire for thosy chilly winternights, hotel has a nice feel about it very welcoming.

We took my mother to the restaurant as a birthday treat, and it was a very pleasant occasion, with the minor irritation that our table was next to a large table area where there was a noisy group (The Weald Society) dinner, and there was a slight problem with the wine. This was all the more disappointing as he head waiter said to me " I have a nice table for you". There was a pleasant pre-drinks area, where we perused the menu and selected our meals. The food and service was excellent, and the surroundings would have been perfect apart from the noisy crowd next to us. We were well into our meal by the time that they took there seats - so no point in asking to move, but it would have been nice to be forewarned and offered an alternative table, at times we could hardly hear ourselves speak. The waiting staff were attentive, except that my wine selection was initially forgotten and then, when it was brought to the table, it was 2011 Fleurie instead of my selection - 2009. When I pointed this out, I was told - sorry that is all that they had - and no offer of a price reduction, although it was £28. I would return there, but would make sure that asked about the seating - before accepting the table offered.

Room Tip: Did not stay at the hotel

I had previously enjoyed a dinner at this family run hotel/restaurant so was looking forward to joining a party of friends for a pre-Christmas Lunch. I was not disappointed. Although the dining room is quite large it has a 'cosy' atmosphere. The efficient staff are attentive & friendly and the food well presented & absolutely delicious. Highly recommended for any excuse or occasion to dine out!

We stayed over on a Saturday evening and were very pleasantly surprised by the high standards of the hotel, both the bar and restaurant were warm and welcoming with delicious food served efficiently. Our room was in the newer part and right at the end of the corridor so no problems with noise for us! I would say the room was comfortable and adequate but not overly fancy, however, the general ambience of the hotel and food was of such a high standard that this was of little concern. The bowl of apples and magazines on your way to the bedroom was a nice touch, as was the plentiful selection of tea/coffee in your room. Would highly recommend this for a short break.

Room Tip: Room 29 is at the far end and very quiet.

Just spent a great weekend at this hotel celebrating my husband's birthday with family. The food in the restaurant and service was excellent. Hotel very clean and all staff very accommodating. Lovely setting for the hotel. Would recommend.

Room Tip: Stayed in the extension - would like to see the rooms in the actual hotel

We have just paid our 4th visit to The Brickwall and can confirm that the hotel continues to maintain its high standards. It is very well run by the owner and efficient, friendly managers. All the staff are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble for their guests.

The hotel is situated in the pretty Sussex village of Sedlescombe and is very convenient for the A21. The original part of the hotel is full of character, and furnished in a traditional manner. The bedrooms in the newer wing are very comfortable with good bathroom facilities which are very well serviced by the housekeeping staff. The hotel and grounds are well maintained, clean and tidy. There is a lovely outdoor pool and seating area, and several other patio areas and gardens, so there are plenty of areas to enjoy a drink in the summertime. There is sufficient safe parking for the number of rooms.

The dinner menu alters every day with plenty of choice, served by very attentive and pleasant waiting staff. The homemade soups are really recommended. Breakfast is probably the best anywhere with a huge selection of fresh fruit, yoghurts, cereals, cold meats and pastries. In addition, of course, there is the usual selection of cooked breakfasts, freshly prepared for each order. Unlike some hotels, at The Brickwall there is none of the jumping up and down to “make your own toast”, teas and coffees, everything is served professionally by waiters to ensure a really restful breakfast.

We opted for the 4 day bed, breakfast and evening meal package which is very good value. We hope to return next year.

Went on avery good value KGB 2 night stay. Whilst the room, was a tad small - and the shower was weak and difficult to control. But what makes this hotel exceptional are the staff (all polite, helpful, efficient and conscientious) and the food.
We ate on both nights of our visit - and were delighted with both. The food is immaculately prepared and served. The vegetables in themselves are worth a visit - well presented, healthy portions and all appear to be freshly cooked. We enjoyed excellent fish, delicious chicken and veal and the complementary sorbet between courses added a touch of class. 10 out of 10 for the food!
We hope to return.

Room Tip: I gather that the rooms at the front are altogether better.
