“Great restaurant and hotel”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

Just spent a great weekend at this hotel celebrating my husband's birthday with family. The food in the restaurant and service was excellent. Hotel very clean and all staff very accommodating. Lovely setting for the hotel. Would recommend.

Room Tip: Stayed in the extension - would like to see the rooms in the actual hotel

We have just paid our 4th visit to The Brickwall and can confirm that the hotel continues to maintain its high standards. It is very well run by the owner and efficient, friendly managers. All the staff are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble for their guests.

The hotel is situated in the pretty Sussex village of Sedlescombe and is very convenient for the A21. The original part of the hotel is full of character, and furnished in a traditional manner. The bedrooms in the newer wing are very comfortable with good bathroom facilities which are very well serviced by the housekeeping staff. The hotel and grounds are well maintained, clean and tidy. There is a lovely outdoor pool and seating area, and several other patio areas and gardens, so there are plenty of areas to enjoy a drink in the summertime. There is sufficient safe parking for the number of rooms.

The dinner menu alters every day with plenty of choice, served by very attentive and pleasant waiting staff. The homemade soups are really recommended. Breakfast is probably the best anywhere with a huge selection of fresh fruit, yoghurts, cereals, cold meats and pastries. In addition, of course, there is the usual selection of cooked breakfasts, freshly prepared for each order. Unlike some hotels, at The Brickwall there is none of the jumping up and down to “make your own toast”, teas and coffees, everything is served professionally by waiters to ensure a really restful breakfast.

We opted for the 4 day bed, breakfast and evening meal package which is very good value. We hope to return next year.

Went on avery good value KGB 2 night stay. Whilst the room, was a tad small - and the shower was weak and difficult to control. But what makes this hotel exceptional are the staff (all polite, helpful, efficient and conscientious) and the food.
We ate on both nights of our visit - and were delighted with both. The food is immaculately prepared and served. The vegetables in themselves are worth a visit - well presented, healthy portions and all appear to be freshly cooked. We enjoyed excellent fish, delicious chicken and veal and the complementary sorbet between courses added a touch of class. 10 out of 10 for the food!
We hope to return.

Room Tip: I gather that the rooms at the front are altogether better.

This was our last stop on a 3 week tour of England. We were pleased to find a very comfortable bed, wonderful breakfast, and good service. On the Saturday night we had a bit of trouble with noise from the restaurant below our room -- several large parties were celebrating -- but the noise level on the other two nights was low, so quiet we almost slept through breakfast. The village where the hotel is located is charming with a good pub if you don't want the large (nd delicious) meal served in the hotel.

A cosy and homely hotel but the welcome and level of service was second to none. Lovely situation for exploring the Sussex Downs. The restaurant had a wonderful ambiance and the food was well presented and cooked.

We had stayed at this hotel before and really liked it. It is in a great location for visiting local attractions and is within a pretty little village. It has nice landscaped gardens.
We had a lovely evening meal during our two night stay and the food was of a very high standard. The staff in the restaurant were very efficient, helpful and friendly especially as they were dealing with 2 big parties. The rest of the staff are just as good.
We had the same bedroom as our first visit as it is in a quiet location but the walls do seem to be thin and we could easily hear the occupants of the adjoining room. On the second night we had a problem with a loud TV late in the evening but the staff dealt with it very quickly and it was not a problem for the rest of the night. Otherwise the bedroom was of a good standard.
The big disappointment for us was we felt the first visit was really good value-not so this time. We felt the room rate and evening meal was a bit expensive for this type of hotel-maybe it is par for the area. Despite our feelings on cost the hotel has a lot going for it and we really enjoyed our stay.

We booked three nights in this attractive hotel located in the small village of Sedlescombe. We were offered a package involving dinner each night. The cost of the three course dinner this way was very reasonable and is well worth considering. The welcome we received initially was most warm and helpful. the room was pleaant and clean and the beds very comfortable. The service in the bar and restaurant could not be faulted and the waiting staff were professional, attentive without being intrusive or over familiar, always polite and very friendly. The dinner menu changes every day, with many options, including vegetarion ones. Many local people appear to use the restaurant, which is always a good sign, several locals appear to use the restaurant. All the food was good, even down to the excellent fresh bread at dinner and the properly cooked toast at breakfast (my pet hate is toast which has barely seen any warmth and arrives with a slightly hardened coat and soggy inside and invariably white!) The breakfast is cooked to order and is spot on.

On the Saturday night there were a couple of private functions as well as a busy restaurant, but service did not suffer.

There is an outdooor swimming pool, which I believe has some heating. Open in warmer months.

All being well this will be the first of many visits.

Highly recommended
