“Just what we needed”
Reviewed April 27, 2012

A group of 4 of us were cycling from London to Paris and this was our final stop before the ferry to Dieppe. We were initially given one large bedroom for all of us, but the owner realised that 2 of us were a couple and quickly changed rooms for us which i thought was very accommodating. The rooms were large and comfortable and we even had an extra bedroom attached to us.

My only one issue with the lodge is that we struggled to get in later that evening, the key we were given did not work. We stood on the doorstep for about 15mins ringing the doorbell and banging the door. In the end, we had to climb round the back and get in through some patio doors, not a massive issue but something to consider.

Newhaven lodge is a sympathetic bed and breakfast, a short bus ride away from Brighton and much cheaper than any accommodation you can find there. We received a warm welcome, the room was clean and everything necessary was provided, including a courtesy tray for tea or coffee and biscuits. The beds were ok although a bit hard for my preference, Breakfast was ok too and the service was very good, people were very friendly. The neighbourhood is not very special but when you are by car or if you take a bus you can enjoy beautiful walks through rough hilly landscapes or enjoy a beautiful coastal walk.

We stayed here just for one night to attend a family party nearby. Very friendly welcome and shown to our room, Given a key to come and go as we liked with no silly rules about when we had to be back by. Owner didn't want money straight away which was nice, happy to settle up in the morning.
Our room was not en suite but a very clean and well equipped bathroom was next door. Room had a a wash hand basin, tea/coffee facilities and a TV.
Breakfast in the morning was good too. Full English with cereal, fruit and juices available, all for £5.
Booking on line with a host website was easy and efficient.
Only minor complaint was that our room was a bit cool, but then found we had contributed by leaving a window slightly open.
Guest house was clean and tidy, staff helpful and friendly and the beds were very comfy.

My partner and I were looking for somewhere to stay near Brighton as my sisters were running in the Brighton Marathon. We stayed at the Newhaven Lodge and found it perfect for what we wanted. The Guesthouse was clean, warm and comfortable and ideally located just a 10 minute walk from Newhaven Town Station which took us right into Brighton. We parked on a residential street (Harpers Road) for free all day (and night) without any fuss. The owner was polite and friendly and we had a lovely stay. I would recommend Newhaven Lodge.

A very pleasant overnight stop on route to France, very clean and comfortable and welcoming. This was the first stop on a 1,500 mile cycling trip round France so we really appreciated the homely atmosphere and the breakfast.Definitely recommended.Great value for money.
