“Quaint and Friendly”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2014

Having parked in the large car parknat the rear of the hotel we were efficiently checked in by a young Australian chap who was quite happy to help us with our bags up the narrow winding staircases and through the corridors to our room on the 3rd floor.

We had booked a Deluxe room which was very spacious and the en-suite bathroom was very modern although we did have an issue with the shower thermostat which meant we had to use the rather narrow bath. (They were extremely appologetic about this.) The king size bed was very comfortable as were the two armchairs placed in the bay window which overlooked the outside seating area and the A22 which got quite noisy in the morning. Having watched some TV on a good quality flat screen TV we went down to the bar where we were served by the same young man (Adam) who had checked us in earlier.
Breakfast was served in the restaurant with a good choice of rolls, cereals, bread, toast, fruit etc. plus a full cooked breakfast with eggs cooked to order.

We found all the staff extremely helpful and friendly.

Overall a very pleasant little hotel giving good value for money. I will not hesitate to stay here again when I am in the Ashdown Forest area.

Room Tip: If traffic noise bothers you then request a room towards the back of the building. The Deluxe rooms...

I stayed one night here. They gave me the family room (which is a suite with one twin and one double room and a shared bathroom) for a discounted rate because I was by myself. Room was very clean, and the bed nice and comfortable, bathroom was very modern and excellent. Breakfast was very good. Staff friendly and efficient. I'll stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the front do get some road noise.

I arrived around 3pm, when one young man appeared to be running the whole place. He checked me in very efficiently, explained the options and times for dinner and breakfast, showed me to my room and 15 minutes later was pouring me a pint of Harvey's Bitter (excellent) in the bar, which is open to the public. The bedroom was comfortable and clean, with good towels and adequate toiletries provided in the bathroom. The dining area is immediately adjacent to the bar, and dinner appeared to meet with the approval of all diners there. Breakfast the following morning was buffet-style with eggs cooked to order. An ideal base for Ashdown Forest and surrounds, this hotel was very good value and the staff were excellent.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back, overlooking the stream and car park, are quieter.

The rooms were basic, but clean, comfortable and with all we needed. The hotel has free wifi, nice lounge area, and most important, an excellent restaurant. The breakfast is buffet + a dish of choice freshly prepared by a proper chef. We went back for dinner twice. The only problem we had it's that one night they hosted a big party in the dining area and the music was extremely loud, so it was impossible to sleep until about midnight.

Booked an executive double for 2 nights at a competitive price. Room (20) and bed were large and en-suite had both shower and bath. Good sized towels were provided.
Traffic noise was to be expected as hotel is on a main road. Downsides were: the blind had no pull cord and had to be rolled up by hand and balanced on the window catch to keep it open; the cleaning was not as thorough as it should have been (stained toilet bowl, dirty marks on wallpaper etc.) and the room was very hot, presumably as it was on the top floor in the eaves.

On the recommendation of the 2nd chef we ate in the restaurant on the first night. The food was really very good and not overpriced. We booked to eat there again on the second night but had a very different experience. We were asked to delay our booking time by half an hour as there was a large party in. We agreed to do this only to find that our first choices of starter and main course had sold out! This was very disappointing as we had only agreed to delay our meal at the request of the hotel. In addition the restaurant had run out of large wine glasses! After speaking to the restaurant manager we were not charged for our starters and given a complimentary glass of wine each. The service was not good and we were unable to attract anyone's attention to order coffee at the end of our meal so went without. The whole experience was unsatisfactory.

The breakfast was good with a considerable choice of cooked options. Again though there is an lack of attention to detail. This morning we were directed to a recently vacated table which the manager started to set without wiping it first until asked. There were not enough glasses for juice and the selection of jams consisted of strawberry or strawberry.

The young second chef we met on the first night of our stay was truly enthusiastic about his work and very friendly. The Spanish waitress on our first morning was also very helpful and enthusiastic. Unfortunately the waitress this morning was rather sullen and seemed less than enthusiastic when taking orders for breakfast and when another group of guests asked for a highchair.

Enjoyed our two night stay at the Brambletye. Rooms were comfortable, restaurant efficient and courtyard pleasant in sunshine. As a group of 11 we opted to dine in a private room and were well looked after, (though as a conference room during the day, it lacked a little atmosphere for evening dining but this was not a significant problem). The set price menus were excellent value and we were generally impressed with the quality of the food. There was a large selection of hot breakfasts all well presented, but less for those preferring a continental breakfast. The hotel was well positioned for beautiful walks, and we were able to complete one from the hotel. The staff I encountered were helpful and made my stay a positive one.

Booked this on a business stop over, via late rooms

Room spacious and clean, staff very attentive and food good. Had my evening meal and breakfast.

Good value for money, large car park and an ample menu
