“Walkers lunch”
Reviewed September 19, 2013

Had lunch at this pub for 15 of us in the walking group. Our table was laid and ready for us and we were served fairly quickly. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals and we were all seated at one table. The pub is very familiar to us and we regularly eat there when we do the walk at Burwash. It is convenient to park in the public car park adjacent to the pub, so a large number of cars does not present the pub with a problem.

Ate at the Bear on numerous occasions recently whilst on holiday in the area and every meal was super, with the pork loin being my favourite and the best I have tasted in a pub restaurant. A large variety of meals were on offer with something suitable for all tastes and all being reasonably priced. Accommodation is available at the pub/motel and it was also very popular with locals who made us feel very welcome and there was a nice friendly atmosphere throughout. Our first week blessed us with glorious sunshine which we enjoyed once or twice from the beer garden at the rear and what a lovely beer garden it was. A top level with tables and chairs overlooking 2 lower levels, all with superb views over the valley - English countryside at it's very best.
Pub and garden are very clean, dog friendly and welcoming as were some of the fine real ales that were on offer. Definitely worth a visit and a meal there is a must in my opinion

This place just gets better. As with my last review, I cannot fault this inn. Lovely clean room. Fresh looking sheets and towels. Staff are very accommodating and friendly. They have recently had a new carpet fitted which looks lovely. A notice outside asking for no muddy boots and shoes and quite right too. Food was excellent. Great to see the same chef as before. Food and plates hot. Chilled wine. All good value. Breakfast was wonderful. Lovely fresh fruit and an arrangement of parties and croissants. Views as always to die for. When we woke the following morning it was misty, but watched it clear within an hour. So beautiful. We are already planning on coming again late Autumn. Close to many NT gardens and the beautiful Merriments nursery and garden. The village is quaint, although a lot of heavy traffic which is a shame. Also well worth a visit is the church with again lovely views and walk.

Room Tip: Rooms across the back as views to die for. Cameras a must.

A thoroughly enjoyable 4 night stay with our touring cricket team. All our needs catered for and more. Kevin and Sarah couldn't do enough for us all. Have already booked for next year....can't wait.
We all had just the best time and made many new friends. Thank you!

We went to the Bear Inn while visiting a friend who recommended we go there for dinner. Very traditional style pub, not a posh gastro style modern one. Prices just about reasonable but the quality of food was excellent so hence very good value for money! I had a gorgeous jacket potato with beans which also came with salad, and it was delicious, not a quick microwave jobbie, but cooked properly with soft mash inside - scrummy! The carnivores with me enjoyed theirs too!

Went here whilst in Sussex camping with friends and our children.

Lovely friendly service, accommodating our request for a large table on a busy night when they were short staffed.
Food was excellent... Could not fault it. Kids meals were superb quality (and quantity!)

It was that good we drove 15 miles for a return visit the next day!

We stayed at the motel for a night whilst visiting family. The rooms are simply furnished but very clean. There are great views from the rear. The bedside table lamps were a particularly fine feature with touch sensitive dim adjustment. Although we did not dine at the adjacent pub, I rather wish we had as the menu looked fantastic and the dishes that diners were served looked to be very good quality. As it was a Tuesday, the evening included a quiz which was great fun and the locals proved to be both very welcoming and not half bad at trivia. There was a decent selection of ales and lagers available at the bar. The £80 room tariff included breakfast and we were not disappointed, treated to a "full monty" cooked English which demonstrated the kitchen's credentials. Also small matters like refresh of tea pot or offer of more toast showed a genuine customer oriented service. All in all we booked looking for somewhere reasonable priced to stay in the vicinity and left wondering when a return visit might be possible as we definitely wish to dine here with guests and stay again. Top marks to the management and team.
