“Dinner.”
Reviewed June 23, 2014

Cannot comment on the hotel overall as I was here as a guest at a wedding party dinner.
Drinks in the Cocktail bar prior to dinner were served efficiently and speedily. The bar had a nice bright and airy seating area facing the road
I noticed that outside there is a table and seating area adjacent to the beach, very nice in the fine weather.
Later in the very spacious dinning room, dinner went down very well. Service was very good and the staff were bright and cheerful. Myself I had Prawns for starters, Pork on a bed of mash with a tasty sauce and for sweet a Cheesecake.
If I had to fault anything then it would be that the plates were not warm enough. Not good if one is a slow eater.
Looking at the prices on the menu it was definitely value for money.

Initially we had a good impression. The room was clean ,spacious and had a balcony.Staff were helpful and welcoming.Unfortunately this did not continue!Food was very expensive and bland.Portions were huge with no lighter alternative available.Tables were not promptly cleared of dirty plates.I had a fried egg with a broken yolk and a second egg that was hard.Several times the dining room was being prepared for large parties for lunch while we were eating breakfast .Not exactly relaxing! We tried to find the "stunning garden" Where was it ? Did we miss something? All we could see was a large expanse of grass cordonned off for functions.Likewise the guest lounge was often out of use because of the functions.Night time was a nightmare as the foam mattresses were so uncomfortable we could not sleep and they make you sweat.I could not wait to get home in order to have a good nights sleep! The bathroom water was scalding and the cold tap had to be run for nearly two minutes before it became cold. There was a notice warning us of this. We will definitely not be visiting again .I think this hotel is primarily a function venue and for that purpose may be good as it has many rooms and is spacious.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony facing the sea

Thank you for your review, we are sorry to learn that your experience deteriorated during your stay.

It is most unfortunate that the food was not to your taste, we try to cover ranges of tastes and styles throughout the hotel and the 'Summer Special' of Salmon Salad and Strawberries is a light alternative. We would have been pleased to change your eggs if you had mentioned it to your waiter.

The gardens are largely concentrated at the front of the hotel and in fact have been a winner of the 'Bexhill in Bloom' annual competition in previous years, the large grass area at the rear is used primarily for functions.

Most of our beds benefit from Tempur Mattresses and while they are the epitome of luxury for many they are not everyone's choice.

We visited the Cooden Beach Hotel on Father's Day as it was a double celebration not just Father's Day but also my husband's 65th Birthday. We were a party of 19 but could not fault either the service or the food. The staff were excellent from the time we arrived when my husband was greeted with "Happy Birthday". We were directed to the Strand Room and shown our table. Our waitress, Philomena, was very good especially with the children in the party and our orders were taken promptly. When we had finished our starters we were directed to the carvery, where the meal and vegetables were excellent and no one could find anything to complain about, and there were some in our group who would have if they had been given any cause.
All in all it was a very enjoyable celebration and many of the group said that they would like to return there for another meal and my husband really enjoyed his day.

Having been to the CBH several times we were not expecting Michelin star, but today was a great disappointment to us. We arrived waited while other people were shown to their tables, and then had ours pointed out to us "you are over there". After 5 minutes we were offered water and a roll. A few minutes later a drinks order was taken, as were orders for the starters. The drinks arrived as ordered and the staters arrived, 4 minutes apart. Presentation is reminiscent of 1970's Bernie Inn - some work to do here. Starters cleared we had to ask where the carvery was and if we were allowed just to go there..... The vegetarian option was dry, we asked for some gravy to go with the nut roast, it never appeared nor did an explanation. The beef was poor, the sausages bland, the portion servings amongst the smallest we have ever seen, we are pretty sure the potatoes and parsnips were pre frozen. Other than the two young people service was surly. We were never offered a second drink and struggled to get any attention at all. We did not bother staying for sweet, nor did we leave a tip. To improve therefore: update the menu and source of the produce. Consider more up to date presentation, get some control over the service. Stop arguing with reviews on tripadvisor it is demeaning and petty.... Listen to the advice and show how you are taking it on board. We will not be back any time soon.

This was a busy Fathers' Day Carvery Lunch and for your party we clearly got it wrong for which we sincerely apologise.

The service in this hotel is excellent.
Every member of staff (and there are many) is clean, smart and polite.
The hotel in my view should be rated as four star.

The meal we had was faultless too.
We will return.

This is a well run and friendly hotel which is reasonably priced. It literally is on the beach with good views and a sizeable car park. Breakfast is great and we had a lovely evening meal there looking out to sea. The staff are very friendly and the room was sizeable and clean.

Our family, 10 altogether went for lunch on Bank Holiday Monday. The staff were polite discreet and pleasant and although the food was very slightly overpriced the hotel itself was excellent. We would certainly return.
