We had lunch here on 03/03/13 and it was amazing. THE staff were
friendly and so helpful.
We had a table by the ire and to top it all the food from starters to desert was just wonderful home cooked food and full of great tastes. It has been a long time since we had such pleasure eating out. We did drive from London to see Battle and have a look around but for us we shall remember that Pilgrims put the icing on the cake to our day out.
THANK YOU .

It was a really cold and frosty day, we didn't want to walk to far from the car so we went straight here, on the face of it, nice old english building and bags of charactor but cold and draughty, real fires but difficult to get near them. Wasn't exactly inspired by the menu, cold winters day it should have stew & pies, the only really warming dish was soup, I had bowl of mushroom soup which was ok, but! (my pet hate) served in a cold dish, wife had tomato which was nice enough. Followed this up by having a jacket potato with cheese, it was pre-cooked and warmed up, probably one of the worst baked potato's i have had, all washed down with a cup of weak tea. Come on Pilgrims Rest, you are in a location that most restaurateurs would kill for, try being a little more imaginative!!!!!!! Very overpriced too, how much does it cost to put a baked potato and a handful of salad on a plate???, would be very reluctant to go back.

We had breakfast here after staying at The George down the road. We had the basic breakfast, for £5.50 each, and it was amazing, really great sausages and bacon, and fresh bread. Perfect all round. A really lovely little cafe!

Stopped here for lunch after visiting the Abbey which is immediately next door and was really pleased we did as the food was delicious. Service was great, attentive and efficient. I had a Stilton and Bacon open ciabatta sandwich and would have it again - it was really very good. Didn't try the cakes but they certainly look amazing (and huge!).
Would definitely recommend this place for lunch. The setting is beautiful and charming as well with open fires and doors that need ducking under. All in all, loved it!

After a few great hours exploring Battle Abbey and the 1066 battlefield, I was looking for a late lunch, and found one just around the corner. I'm usually a bit weary of 'the restaurant closest to the main attraction', but this was a pleasant exception.

It looks as charming and cozy from the inside as it does from the outside. Service was friendly and quick. I opted for a delicious hot chocolate (with plenty of marshmallows) and a sandwich with warm bacon, brie and some kind of raspberry jam - a (to me) slightly odd but very tasty combination!
