When you arrive at the George Hotel from the small car park, the first thing you see is an empty unwelcoming desk at the bottom of the stairs by the back door of the Italian restaurant.
Things improve though as you climb the stairs with its portraited walls & chandeliers & the room was large with a comfortable bed & decent bathroom.
The breakfast room was a surprise too. Down the corridor passing the toilets was a bright & spacious room with a generous (for a fiver) buffet breakfast & the opportunity to order a cooked breakfast too.
Also good is the location on the High Street in Battle only 200 or so metres from the Abbey with some good restaurants, pubs & tea shops nearby.
In reality the George is a B&B but it's a very decent place for a couple of nights.More
