“Disappointing since the previous owners left”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

Used to be a frequent visitor to the Squirrel Pub, especially for their Sunday lunches. Since the Squirrel changed hand a couple of years ago it does seems to have lost something.

Having said that the new owners have recently made a lot of improvements and we would certainly like to visit there again.

“Lovely pub, friendly staff”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

This is a lovely pub, in fact my favourite pub to go for a game of pool and a wee tipple in the whole of Battle & Hastings. I can say that the food is lovely and would recommend it, the staff are so accommodating, and it always has a calm and friendly atmosphere. In the winter they have a cosy fire lit, and in the summer they have a couple of great beer gardens -one for entertaining kids with play apparatus, and one the other side with amazing views over the countryside. The only negative is that it is not open every night, which is such a shame as I have on a couple of occasions travelled out to go there only to find it closed and ending up in another pub that I really didn't want to be in! Love The Squirrel, would recommend it and is my pub of choice when I do get the chance to get out :)

“A great pub with good food and beer”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

A lot has been done to this pub since the new landlords took over a while ago
There is a new chef in town and he can cook ( not that the last one couldn't) ;-)
The food is superb
The beer (and pipes) are well maintained (a sign of a good landlord) and they have a good selection (especially DoomBar when it's on)
The kids love it due to the excellent playground ( and bouncy castle in good weather)
Loads of room inside and out (with great views over the Sussex countryside)
When in Battle, check this place out!

“Meeting with friends and children”
Reviewed September 8, 2012

Visited the Squirrel Inn today for lunch and to sit in the garden and enjoy the good weekend weather. Phoned ahead before we arrived to check they were serving food, service is between 12-2 at lunchtimes with final orders at 1.50. We had a choice of bar snacks -sandwiches, jacket potatoes etc and the specials board which had a range of hot meals. On inquiring whether they had a children's menu the answer was that they did smaller versions of everything on display except the steaks. This meant that the children had a good choice of meals to choose from.
We all ordered something different which meant a wait for it all to be cooked, however during that time the children had the playground to play in which kept them happy and the adults happy as they had time for a chat.
When the food arrived the only complaint was that we would have preferred the gravy to come in a jug so we could choose whether we added it. The food was plentiful and what I would class as good pub food.
Staff were helpful and grateful when I brought back the empties!
All in all a great little pub with good pub food.
