Owner description: Stand at the centre of where England's future was fought. Imagine and discover the stories unfold, brought to life in the exhibition and in audio as you follow the footsteps of the Norman & Saxon soldiers. Watch the compelling film about the Norman invasion, then plan your own attack on the country's most famous battlefield. See the new wood carved sculpture trail around the battlefield, experience the stunning 360 views from the new rooftop viewing platforms, and take your time to explore the monastic ruins. For kids we now also have a new kids natural play area, and a fun kids trail. Make sure you experience the atmosphere for yourself.

“1066 and all that”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

It was wet and cold on the day of our visit but as English Heritage members entry was free so I was not put off by the fact the longer battlefield walk was closed due to maintenance works. You would of definately needed wellies anyway to of participated. We did the shorter walk around the grounds accompanied by the audio guide which told the story at different vanatage points. The site is a ruin but very atmospheric especially when looking down towards the battlefield. You can access parts of the Abbey and outer buildings. The visitor centre has some interactive displays together with replica weapons and armour which you are allowed to try and lift (and I mean 'try' as they are very heavy). A short film outline the story of the battle.
A good qulaity shop and cafe are attached to the site as you'd expect from EH. Think it is over priced especially for a family of four or more, however the small village of Battle is well worth a visit as very picturesque with good qulaity shops so all in all a good afternoon out. We did note that disability scooters were available for those who need them

“A must see if you're interested in our history”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

We stayed in Brede for a weekend and Battle Abbey was one of four places on our list to visit. There is a reasonably sized car park and the cost is reduced for visitors to the Abbey. The longer walk was off limits - the weather had been dreadful so that could have been the cause - but there was still plenty to see. The battle is explained in a series of outdoor display boards and brings it to life as you walk through the grounds.

The Abbey shop is well stocked with nice quality goods and the staff are friendly and helpful.
