Description: At Chequers we aim to provide a new way to dine, a relaxed vintage atmosphere, exciting rustic British food and a classic British bar. With our chefs locally sourcing ingredients from only farms that we have firsthand knowledge of, foraging for those special ingredients that are forgotten on menus today and preparing every dish to let the flavours of each ingredient excite the taste buds exactly how they should. This all mixed with our excellent wine list of classic and some very unusual great wines, and a classic British bar, we hope that once enjoyed you will just want to keep coming back.

Have been going to Chequers with my boyfriend for the past year, we loved going there before they closed for new management. After they re-opened we went to see if anything had changed - it looked the same but you could tell the atmosphere was different, but it wasn't until our food came out we new it had changed for the worse! Food was dry and indelible. Chips that were ment to be home made were packaged frozen frying chips, meet was dry, and deserts were clearly shop brought!! Also prices have been raised especillaly alcohol! Very disappointed and will not be returning!

We had been here a few times before for lunch, and went again on Monday this week.
The barmaid was helpful, but said a couple of times that things weren't settled by the new management.
My white wine was at room temperature, so I asked for ice cubes to cool it.
We had 3 meals - haddock fishcakes, very average with a tired looking salad, gammon steaks ( they had no pineapple so offered onion rings instead) but it was all rather overcooked, and cod and chips which looked ok but had obviously been done from frozen as it was slimy and inedible. We were given a refund for that one meal, but it was a disappointing experience! Never again!

This is a no nonsense pub, it serves good unpretentious food in pleasant surroundings at a reasonable price, We went at lunchtime ,there were about 15 people in eating and drinking and the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. I don't know what its like in the evenings but be warned , there are slot machines, a pool table and plenty of speakers for music!
We had simple lunchtime fare; a ploughmans and a sausage baguette , both came with a very fresh salad and crisps and cost about £6 per head. The beer, and there was only one! was Harvey's best and , as it came from a fresh keg , was A1 ,

So , together with a large car park , this was a pleasant experience, Oh, and the loos were spotless
