“Wonderful weekend away”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

Like your previous reviewer have said, this a wonderful place to stay and rest up. We where given a warm welcome from the owners. The room and bed where very comfortable, especially the view first thing in the morning. The breakfast both days was cooked to order and nicely presented.
The owners gave us a lots of advise about the area and what to do while we where, which we found very helpful.

Would we book their again, YES without hesitation.

what an excepitional place to stay right from the warm welcome to the excellent views from your bedroom. the whole experince was so easy going from Janet and Andrew you just felt right at home in their home.We had a lovely nights sleep in a wonderful comfy bed! After smelling the homemade bread wafting up through the house we could not wait for breakfast and we were not disappointed. It tasted great along with the locally sourced food served for breakfast. we will be going back in the future.

Our stay with Janet and Andrew was simply a thoroughly enjoyable experience. This gorgeous converted barn in the middle of beautiful Sussex could not be more perfect.

it was indeed a great pleasure to be welcomed so warmly by Janet and Andrew, who saw to all our needs.

Our room had all the character of an old milking shed, but with lovely modern day comforts, that it was hard to imagine cows had once lived there!!

Janet had thought of everything we could possibly need with the little extras that make a stay so memorable. Andrews breakfast was delicious and very homely.

It was a shame we were on a tight schedule and only able to stay one night, but we hope to return another time, even though it is a long way from Sydney to Crowhurst!

We highly recommend this delightfully lovely B&B.

Room Tip: When arriving there, it would be good to know that "Nash's Farm" takes in lots of farm...

Charming converted barn surrounded by lush green farm land. Country cosy furnishing (watch out for low beams), clean and comfortable. Wake up to a lovely view of lambs running around the fields and birdsong. It’s incredibly quiet and peaceful, ideal if you want to get away from it all. Breakfast was full English with home baked bread and newly laid eggs – you can’t get better than that!

Really enjoyed our few days away at St Benedict's Byre. Lovely views and walks, sweet and quaint room/bathroom both thoughtfully decorated. Breakfast done very nicely with lovely views out to the sheep and fields. All clean and comfortable with a lovely personal touch. Highly recommended. Also it was very convenient that we could come and go as we pleased, leave the car in the driveway when going out for walks etc. The rooms aren't huge and you have to mind out for the beams, but this just added charm in our opinion. A lovely relaxing few days. Also I nearly booked a nearby place but then chose this one because there were no DOGS and pets like other nearby places seem to allow (not very relaxing for us personally!)

What a delightful experience our weekend at St Benedicts Byre was. The room and en suite bathroom were tasteful, comfortable and lovely and our hosts were charming and friendly. The views were stunning and the breakfast delicious. There are great walks to do in the Sussex countryside as well as the picturesque little town of Battle to visit. Lots of character and history all around and very close to the seaside. The location is calm and peaceful. We had the magical experience of snow to complete a lovely break from our busy London lives. We will definitely be back and and can't recommend highly enough.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
ST BENEDICT’S BYRE is set at the end of a farm lane, about 1.5 miles from the pretty village of Catsfield, surrounded with amazing views and walks. Battle is about four miles away; and Hastings, with its historical old town and fishing huts, seven miles. The Byre is within hitting distance of many National Trust properties: Bateman’s, Sissinghurst Castle and Gardens, Bodiam Castle and Battle Abbey. There are plenty of interesting watering holes with great Sussex fare and ales for you to enjoy, along with scrumptious afternoon teas. THE BYRE is a converted dairy and milking parlour facing south and enjoying amazing weather and sunsets. We source our entire breakfast ingredients organically from local supplies, while supplying our own fresh organic eggs. On a fine morning, you can take breakfast on the terrace watching the chickens play in the gardens and several sheep with their lambs. Depending on the time of year you visit, the chickens rub shoulders with young heifers in our three-acre field. We welcome children 12 years and over, but are unable to accommodate pets, including dogs left in cars over night. This is a smoke free house. ... more   less
