We visited Southwold and stayed in another hotel, but came here to eat one evening.
The food was superb and the service really friendly and professional. We wished we had stayed here instead, as the rooms were simply stunning, but we had been recommended another hotel, which was disappointing by comparison.
Southwold is a nice enough place to visit, but we found the fact that the 'Adnams' company owns many of the shops and hotels, very offputting...like walking onto the set of the Trueman show! Noone to give you impartial advice, as they all seemed to work for the same company.
Enjoy your visit, if you go here...the General manager was simply lovely too!

Just spent a couple of days at Sutherland house to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. Perfect.... Southwold an old fashioned sea side town without the tackyness that you find in so many of our coastal resorts, with some great eateries/pubs and shops to keep you happy for couple of days.
Sutherland house only has 3 rooms, but what great rooms. We stayed in the Earl of Sandwich room with its huge slipper bath infront of an open fireplace. It takes about 25 mins to fill it but its worth it..... the bed is very comfortable and huge, the cookies a nice touch. The staff all friendly and attentive and the food was excellent...

All I can say is that we had a fantastic trip. Staff where informative, polite and friendly. Rooms were big and spacious with great mini bar and coffee! Definately a restaurant with rooms but relaxed and comfortable with beautiful rooms... yes the bath takes a while to run but...worth the wait.

The food is amazing and definately the best dining experience in Southwold!!!!

Will be visiting again very soon.

Thank you to all the staff for a memorable and excellent weekend.

Well what can I say, everything about our stay in Southwold was fantastic. From the moment we arived we were made to feel very welcome and at home.

We stayed in the Duke of York room with it increbidle 600 year old celling, and it was great fun to know that the Duke of York had stayed in the same room all those years ago, fortunately we were not visited by the ghost that so many people talk about.
They really have tastfully combined the old and the new so well, and all though the bathroom is small the rest of the room makes up for it.

We ate in the resturant that evening and the food really is out of this world, espesally the homemade black pudding and it did not suprise me to find out about all the awards they keep winning. I am sure there will be many more awards to come in the furure.

All though the hotel is small with only 3 rooms it has a wonderful homely feal about it. The staff are very friendly and helpful. This really was the most fantastic way to spend my birthday and we will most curtainly be back.
