We were delighted with our welcome, our room, our breakfast, the staff and the situation of the hotel.

We were blown away by the evening meals and the interesting and interested bar staff.

Our two night stay in an executive room was made all the more enjoyable by the bar and restaurant staff.

I would recommend The Randolph.

We stayed over at the Randolph as we were going on the brewery tour in Southwold and as a treat for my birthday.
The hotel was in a great location, a short 15 minute walk to Southwold. The food was beautiful in the evening and the breakfast was nice too.
The staff are wonderful, helpful, hardworking and make you feel valued as a customer and resident.
The rooms we had 12 and 8 were spacious, but the bathrooms let it down. In 8 the light switch almost fell off the ceiling every time you pulled it. In 12 there is no real shower, only a telephone style head at the end of the bath, which is very difficult when you want to wash your hair like I did and it is long like mine, it was a mission in itself. If it wasn't for the bathrooms, the overall rating would have been much better.

Room Tip: Check whether room has a shower or not, if you prefer showers like we do.

Dear SP80

Thank you for your lovely reviews on both the food in the restaurant and this one on the hotel side of our business. Rm 12 has no shower, which is why it is sold with bath en-suite only. We are hoping to be able to upgrade this bathroom in early 2014. The light fitting pull cord in room 8, that had become unscrewed has now been screwed and fixed, thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Best wishes

The Randolph was easy to find, well signposted and about a 20min walk down to the sea. When we arrived we felt that the welcome was not great. They couldn't find our booking on the computer, then they realised they were looking in the wrong place. We were told we were on the second floor and given the key. It would have just been nice to have been shown to our room. We had been travelling Suffolk and this was the only Hotel we were not shown to our room. The Hotel is very interesting as in the fact it has lots of little flights of stairs and corridors hence we went up too far with our bags and had trouble finding the room. We had booked a King size room and the room itself was lovely, very spacious with a huge bay window and large bathroom. It was rather dusty especially along the headboard but I can see it must be a challenge to keep this size of Hotel spotless. The standard rooms looked small.
We were given plenty of tea and coffee and fresh milk, which was very welcome. The bed was comfy and we slept well, even at the front of the hotel it was quiet.
When we returned from a night out again we didn't really feel that welcome, however in the morning the lady that served us breakfast was really chatty and helpful discussing what we were going to be up to that day.
At breakfast we didn't have menus, glasses etc on the table and the girl seemed surprised that the table wasn't set up. The breakfast buffet was plentiful with fresh fruit, the cooked breakfast was average..
Our stay was ok, however just a bit more attention to detail would have made this so much better.

Room Tip: Choose a King size at the front if you can.

We've just come back from a lovely stay at The Randolph, booked due to such good reviews on here and we're really pleased. We had a really lovely stay in a room with 2 cotbeds and a cot (Executive Suite i think) for 2 nights. They were really accommodating - heating bottles etc and the room and hotel was spotlessly clean. We had a lovely meal (steak) on Sunday night and the staff were really helpful when I asked them to help serve a cake for my husbands 40th birthday, and were really accommodating and patient with kids extra requirements. Breakfast was really nice and staff were really friendly, we didn't get to meet Donna and David The owners as they were on holiday, but thank you very much Randolph for a lovely stay. We visited the Randolph for a meal during our holiday in Suffolk (August 2013).
The staff were friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. Our two small girls loved the fuss everyone made of them and enjoyed sitting in the garden colouring and running around.

The staff were clearly very busy so our meal took a while to arrive but when it did was wonderful. We will certainly be visiting again and highly recommend it to other families who love good food and a warm welcome.

Should have done this review sooner.! It is 2 years ago that my daughter and son in law held their wedding reception at The Randolph. Right from the moment we contacted David about the arrangements for their special day we felt like royalty. Nothing was too much trouble, with prompt replies to e-mails of which there were plenty as we live in Staffordshire, too the arrival of wedding guests staying at the hotel for the week end. The staff were wonderful from start to finish. On the wedding day the room for the reception was a delight to behold as everything my daughter had wished for the romantic 'beach theme' was carried out exquisitely. The menu choice for the wedding breakfast was wonderful, even the vegetarian options made our mouths water. The standard of service, presentation of the food from starter to the sweet was amazing. All 70 guests just wanted the evening to continue as we danced to fantastic music, DJ / entertainer recommended by David. The weather was glorious so we spilled out in to the pleasant garden for photographs and drinks. Even the children had a fab time. The evening buffet arrived and we again was overwhelmed by the presentation of a wonderful selection of food available. Our guests where delighted with the rooms as all are furnished to a very high standard, clean and comfortable. Next morning when we gathered for breakfast everything was back in its normal place. The full English breakfast was well worth the wait...as they use all local produce. Thank you to everyone on the team who contributed to making the occasion a wedding to remember.

We went back again last October for a long week end and the welcome was just as warm, the food excellent and the service from the staff was second to non. Morning, noon or night the staff are kind, courteous, polite and considerate. Looking forward to this years visit. A very big thank you David to you and the team. I can't praise you enough. From a very happy visitor.
