“Good location and breakfast.”
Reviewed June 11, 2014

Ideal location for visiting Southwold and walking distance of town, coast and brewery.
Good choice of breakfast including full English.
Nice room and general decoration good but outside of building needs some attention.
Car park to the rear ok but not ideal if you have to park under the trees.
OK to park in the side street.

Just returned from a three night break in Southwold, staying at this lovely hotel.
Our room was comfortable and nicely furnished with a spacious bathroom with a bath, shower and good quality toiletries.
The staff were friendly and helpful and breakfast was beautifully cooked with plenty of choice.
We ate in the restaurant one evening and the food was excellent and very good value. The bar was well stocked and comfortable.
All in all a very pleasant stay.

The hotel is in a good location. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean with a comfortable bed. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good with lots of choice. Just a couple of observations - I think the check in procedure needs some attention. We arrived just ahead of another couple and we were all kept waiting for some considerable time before someone appeared to check us in. Perhaps a bell or buzzer could be provided for guests to announce their arrival. Also, we dined in the restaurant on both evenings of our stay and the food was delicious. Being a vegetarian I was disappointed to find on the second evening that the only option available was the same as the previous one. However on mentioning this to the waitress I was then offered an alternative which the chef 'whipped up' for me which I was very happy with. Perhaps as there is only one option it could be changed each evening or at least have an alternative on the specials board. Having said that we were very happy with our stay and would definitely return.

Had a two night stay at this hotel, Our overall impression was of a pleasant and well run establishment. The room on the second floor was spacious with a large on suit shower room. However this room (number 8) is also the fire exit, with emergency access to all guests through the room and out the window then down a steep ladder.
Fortunately there was no need for its use during our stay.
The restaurant in the hotel is very good, which it just as well as it seems that most other eateries in Southwold appear to close at 6 pm.
This is the first time I have ever stayed at a hotel that is let down by the town it is in.

Room Tip: Possibly avoid room 8 the fire exit

We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant, which was very quiet on a Friday evening. Our meal was very good and served well by the friendly staff. We all enjoyed a varied meal including pork stuffed with black pudding, an excellent steak and skate. Our starters of squid were deep fried, which was a bit of a disappointment, but it was an enjoyable evening with pleasant staff and above average food.

Just back from a wonderful holiday in east anglia, the only downside being the accommodation at the Blyth Hotel Southwold. On arrival we were directed to our room (2) to find a carpet that was many shades of Black, a headboard that had ominous stains on it (dried blood?) a window behind net curtains that wouldn't close ( a shame as it was right above an extractor flan that kicked into action at 7am) a shower that the temperature fluctuated from luke warm to scalding hot on a whim (or if one of the other guests flushed their loo)
Breakfast was poor inedable pancake and generally very average filtered coffee, cereals, stewed prunes (I think) all this for a shocking £125 per night.
I learnt later this used to be the old Railway Hotel, the last train left Southwold in 1929, this place looked like it hadn't been touched since then, a great pity I don't know how they get away with it.
