Just returned from a night over the bank holiday weekend with my husband and two boys.

Hotel was very accommodating in letting us take air beds for our young boys at no extra cost for the double room and also allowed for a one night stay over the bank holiday weekend - unusual in Southwold where rooms are limited. Staff very friendly and keen to offer help etc, however bed not especially comfortable and lack of hot water unacceptable. No hot water whatsoever for showers between 8am and 10am, no thermostat control and a permanent plaque mounted to tiles to ask guests to say at peak times to expect there will probably be no hot water. Poor and unacceptable. Had friends staying at £24 per night camp site who enjoyed hotter showers! Basic fundamentals at hotel need to be addressed - hot water and comfy beds being critical. Seems a shame owners are complacent about this, especially delivering the first of these two basics.

Room size was fine, but bathroom tired and no black out curtains which again should be a given IMHO. Hallways and stairs tatty and in need of replacement/a coat of paint.

Bit of a wait for breakfast table to be laid and staff ignoring infuriating ringing phone slightly irritating...however, food was in fairness super. Continental breakfast basic and poor however great dinner style menu of breakfast options which were superb - we all had a different option and all were excellent (though single poached egg and four mushrooms a bit mean).

main objection however was £10 charge for breakfast per child! Expensive anyway, but totally galling then to see sandwich board outside advertising a full english for £6.95 for non residents! Nothing short of insulting!

The dinner menu looked super and it seems to me this establishment needs to invest equally its energies into ensuring their accommodation offers matches this too - then they would have something very special.

Would possibly return for dinner but certainly not an overnight unless some significant changes were implemented.

The photos on the website don't do justice to the hotel. The look is much cleaner & simpler with a pale blue nautical theme throughout, funkier & younger. This hotel was half the price of those in the centre of town &, literally only 5 minutes away. The staff were very friendly & helpful. Meals were excellent & the complimentary pot of tea was very welcome. After careful research, we took all of our meals at the hotel & were delighted with the quality of both dinner & breakfasts. The price was extremely reasonable. We left planning our next visit!

Even though it's been four years since our last visit to the Blyth, it's still just as great. Ever so friendly and efficient staff, excellent food and service.

We also love the fact that The Blyth really is dog friendly, not just pretend dog friendly like some places. The staff are so lovely, for instance bringing a bowl of water to ensure everyone is happy and comfortable.

It's in a great location, meaning you can leave your car and walk around the town and along the gorgeous beach.

As we left it quite late to make our booking, there was only one single room left but this was explained to us and we got a nice discount. It was absolutely fine for the three of us (my Husband, dog and I) for one night and would be more than adequate for a person travelling alone. This is the only reason I've scored low on sleep quality, but on previous visits it has been great.

We thoroughly recommend a stay or visit to the Blyth if you're in Southwold, we felt sad to leave yesterday.

We'll definitely be back again :-)

I have to agree with most of the reviewers on here, the stair carpet is awful and I think standards have gone down since we last stayed two years ago. Absolutely nothing on the bar menu for a veggie, i.e. me, and my husband said his steak wasn't as good as last time. Having said that, the staff are fantastic and so attentive, and we're not far from the sea. And the bed is comfy! But I think £100 pn is a bit excessive.

I just spent two comfortable days at Blyth Hotel. The owner and staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and the bed comfortable, the shower need a bit of TLC but worked fine. The staircase carpet could do with renewing, as could most of the carpets but that must be a huge capital outlay and I guess the hotel is under relatively new ownership so little by little....
Breakfast was lovely and the rooms represented good value for Southwold; only 20 minutes walk to everything!

Room Tip: Rooms 2 and 3 have an extract fan from the kitchen on the wall between their windows. It switched off at 1030pm but came on again at about 7am. Not a problem unless you are very sensitive to noise or an early to bed merchant.
