“Good value”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

We were staying in the area and ate here one evening. Nice friendly pub, we chose to sit in the restaurant which was divided into different small areas, but comfortable. Two courses for £10 and we really enjoyed it. Considering Southwold is a fairly expensive area, this was a real find.

“What pub food should be...”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

...but so often isn't. Triple cheese ploughmans came with a nicely dressed salad, warm baguette, tasty pickled onions and Adnams Broadside chutney. My boyfriend had the fishfinger bap, which had the potential to be disappointing. This was far from the case. Chunky homemade battered fillets, with a generous helping of tartare sauce in a bap with salad. Good selection of beers too. Happy days!

Its not rocket surgery (as my dad would say) but what's not to like? Comfy well run pub near to the centre of Southwold, we will definitely be returning :-)

“The best menu with most variety in town”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

We only stayed one night in Southwold, but found that the Red Lion offered the best variety of food in town. It was not totally seafood orientated and was also very well priced. My husband and I nearly fell of our chairs when we saw the size of the meals and the food was delicious. There are plenty of 'comfort' foods to choose from, as well as seafood if you like or salads to choose from. I am happy that we didn't settle for the norm fish'n'chips when there was so many other good things on offer here.
The service was very speedy and efficient, and the drink prices were reasonable as well.
There seemed to be plenty of seating available and it was pretty well spread out, so you were no bumping elbows with the people next to you.

“A Fabulous 'back to basics' Pub”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

Don't expect Gastro but do expect fine home-cooked food at good-value prices. The service is pleasant and efficient - so perfect for families needing children to be fed quickly - and the Adnams beer is delicious. The pub's location is close to Southwold's beach so it couldn't really be better. Thank you to the team for looking after us during a very busy lunch time on New Year's Day. (Strongly recommend booking if you want to eat at the weekend or during the busy holidays).
