“The best simple fare”
Reviewed June 8, 2013

A very simple place on Blackshore Southwold Harbour, excellent wet fish counter (all from their own boats) and a nice little restaurant at the back. Food is mainly cold platters(bring your own wine and bread) of both smoked and fresh fish and shellfish, crab, lobsters etc.you design your own platter to suit your own tastes.all in all fantastic if a little quirky.Booking is very advised.

“Not for children”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

They only serve fish. Mostly funny looking seafood, along with some salmon. You have to bring along your own bread and salads (or there's an adjoinging cafe).

We went for the seafood platter, which I started eagerly but then lost my nerve a bit. There's prawns, king prawns, crab, whelks, cockles, crayfish. There's so much of it all that actually rather than being a delicacy you get a bit sick of it. No way I'm eating fifty cockles.

Worth going for a special occasion. The best bit was the hot smoked salmon, which they smoke next door.

Also note: open for lunch only (in Summer 12-3), and the only toilet is outdoors.

“unique”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

We ate here on our 30yr wedding anniversary - as a surprise from the other half. A good bottle of wine was produced from his rucksack and a good quality loaf of bread - went well with the platter we ordered! Made a great change from just eating at yet another restaurant - If we return that way we will revisit with a little salad to give variety.
The staff were friendly and helpful. We had a great time at a very reasonable price

“Hardcore Seafood!”
Reviewed May 24, 2013 via mobile

We have never been anywhere quite like this. It's not a proper restaurant, they don't cook anything and don't supply any drinks or side dishes. All they do is serve up amazing seafood at a decent price. Not for the faint hearted, be prepared to leave stinking of the sea, with sand in your teeth.

“Didn't live up to expectations”
Reviewed May 8, 2013 via mobile

Reading previous reviews we had high expectations, and walked out from Southwold to the harbour for lunch taking a bottle of wine and some bread with us. The harbour is a peaceful spot and we had high hopes, but sadly were very disappointed with our seafood platter. The dressed crab was nice and the large prawn (only one each) had some flavour, but the rest was completely tasteless. Glasses for the wine were provided, and some kitchen towel to wipe your fingers, but I had to ask for a tiny wedge of lemon, and there is nowhere to wash your hands.
The fresh fish on sale looked very nice but was expensive, as were the seafood platters.
