Owner description: If one picture on a postcard could sum up an idyllic English Seaside destination it would have to be Southwold Pier. Decked out across the sea in the picturesque coastal town of Southwold, this pillared walkway has a magnetic attraction and something for everyone to enjoy! There's so much to do a whole day can drift by while you walk the planks and explore this historic icon. Please note: Our opening times are weather permitting and therefore can change.

“Oh what a lovely pier!”
Reviewed November 3, 2013

We came across Southwold whilst ambling around late one afternoon. What a joy to find an old pier lovingly restored and maintained. Too often piers are just the home for tacky amusement arcades and cheap tat. The joy of this pier is not only the nice shops and lovely restaurants but the history left behind by the dedications and memorials all along the handrails.

As it was getting dark when we were there the pier was soon aglow with light which just added to the charm. Dont miss the wonderful water clock too!

“Not to be missed - we'll be back.”

This is not a huge, long pier but is so charming we always return. Look out for the moving Southwold Pier sign at the first entrance and, of course, the Tim Hunkin Water Clock ... always fun. The memorial plaques all along the rail are fascinating and a great history of visitors and the town. Restaurants are good and the Under the Pier Show - more Tim Hunkinery - brilliant inventions and very different.

The water clock is a must see. The little well presented shops on the pier are tasteful. The fisherman on the pier has great stories to tell.

“What fun!”

Great experience-a good, old fashioned pier by the seaside! Enjoyed the 'water clock' and regret not trying the Quantum Telescope. Didn't eat though there was plenty of opportunity should you so wish. Good backward view of the Southwold Beach huts.
