This is a great place to take the kids, they can see how the docks work. You can take a picnic and watch the boats coming in and out or have a cup of tea at the new restaurant there. Very interesting to visit

Reviewed October 26, 2013

if you like watching the container ships come in this is a good place to go!
it has free car parking which is a bonus!
there is also a cafe on site which we belive is expensive but we didn't try it.

“Working place”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

Maybe i am not the right person to write this here, as I need to join a vessel here. been here many times, and I still like the port as general here is good service and a nice seamens club. Also easy to go to the city even there is not much to do, but only to have a break

“Interesting viewing”
Reviewed September 12, 2013

There is a visitor centre and a cafe at the side of a large car park which overlooks the port. From the front row of the car park, if the weather isn't too good, you can look over to Harwich and also see large container ships being loaded/unloaded. There is seating available and a walk along the estuary brings you to a nature reserve. Judging by the number of people in the car park the day we visited this is a popular stopping point! We certainly enjoyed our day here.

“its a Port stupid”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

Don't expect too much, this is a working Port and just full of containers. There used to be a nice passenger ferry (big rowing boat) to Harwich and there's a nice nature reserve where you can view all sorts of migratory birds as they make landfall in England from the continent.
