“Bridge Weekend 26th - 29th April 2013”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 18, 2013

I would like to thank Bob and the staff at the Marlborough Hotel for an excellent weekend with exceptional services. 46 of us stayed at the hotel and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. The food was first class with a variety of choice for the evening meal. The breakfasts were absolutely A1, again with a variety of choice to suit all needs. Everybody enjoyed the weekend and we will be back again in November.
Keep up the good work

Room Tip: Try and avoid the annex

I have stayed here on business on a few occasions and have always found it to be a good, reasonable price hotel. Breakfast is always very good. It is old and a little worn, but you get very good value for money. Food in the bar is good and a good selection of beers. Excellent position for town, sea and kiddy rides alang the sea front.

Room Tip: Get a sea view room

My two night stay in Felixstowe in mid-December was caused by my being marooned without a car and the Marlborough was simply the first place I found with any vacancies. Had I read the Tripadvisor reviews first, I would probably have chosen to sleep rough on the beach. Which would have been a pity, for more reasons than the dense fog and bone-piercing cold. The hotel is a place of stark contrasts. Most obviously, almost everything superficial - the decor, the menu - seems unchanged from the 1960s or 70s. The room I had was clean, in that it appeared to have been recently and thoroughly dusted etc and the en suite toilet and bath sparkling, but there were some fascinating stains on the carpet (and on the ceiling) and the whole effect was desperately tired. What counterbalances, and almost outweighs, all this is more substantial. The staff, almost all eastern European, are unfailingly lovely, clearly trying their utmost to do their best - and usually succeeding. Breakfast was absolutely standard English - and none the worse for that: a buffet with a wide choice of cereals, fruit juices and so on; bacon and eggs nicely cooked and sausages too, although the latter didn't feel the best quality; unlimited supplies of toast and (OK, portion-controlled) preserves and lovely coffee. Because the dining room had been taken over by a coach party (clearly their major clientele , at least out of season), I ate my evening meals in the adjoining bar: a friendly barman made up for the fact that the food was pretty grim (fish and chips preceded by the giveaway ping of a distant microwave) and that I was, for the hour or so that I was there, the only person in the place! Hard to sum up: there is much that is very obviously open to criticism; however, underneath, there is something endearing about the Marlborough where, in the end, they will do their best to make you comfortable.

stayed there from monday to friday whilst working away, bit of a time warp as to be expected but fairly pleasant in a weird way, seems everyones just a little too laid back, each member of staff is a little slow, they all do a bit of everything, receptionist, cook, maid, blah, blah, lets say there all multi talented, the barman seemed to have morphedi into the breakfast chef overnight, rooms are dated but comfy and you get to like them, theres a bar with darts pool table which is pretty cool, seems the barmaid didnt realise what pork scratchings are and didnt understand that when you order a diarono and coke they should be in the same glass,...........funny as!!!!
anyway i would stay again for the crack.

Me and my partner were visiting family for Boxing Day so booked this hotel for £60 for one night. On arrival we were pleasantly surprised by good December weather. On the main stretch of the shoreline it had a lovely view of the quaint seaside with its local fairground chippy and donut stand on open view.

We were promptly booked into a room and took our keys and luggage. Location of room rathe odd owing the maze like stairways but definitely not lacking character.

The room was small but more than enough room for what we needed. It was old fashioned English and very cute with a beautiful view of the sea. The bath was simple, could have done with a descale and mildew and mould wiped off curtains and walls. Toilet paper was like sandpaper and would have wished they didn't cheap out on that. Other than that is did the job. The bed was a little hard but nothing we couldn't handle, was a shame they didn't have a thicker mattress as we could feel the bed base when laying.

Good location easily accessible with good parking. I would go there again but they could do a few small things to improve the living conditions.

We read mixed reviews about this hotel before we decided to book. We were visiting family in this area and chose this hotel for the sea view over all alternatives. I would say that this was for the children's benefit but my wife and I were equally excited!
The hotel and our rooms were clean, our room was ideal with adjoining double room with en suite shower for my wife and me, twin room with en suite bath for the children ~ both with a sea view. The staff (reception, bar and breakfast) were really good.
Our only criticism would be that; our room (my wife and I) was cold and didn't really heat up, the decor throughout the hotel is tired and the bar really needs to be dragged in to 2012 (soon 2013). My wife sent me downstairs to bring drinks an snacks back to the room.
Despite these issues, we will be returning again. In fact; we will most likely book here each time we visit family for more than just the day.

Room Tip: We had 310 (double with shower) adjoining 307 (twin with bath). If the temperature is low, make sure...
