Sunny day, full English breakfast steaming hot, with local ingredients...can't beat it. Very relaxing and not rushed. Service with a smile. Accommodated my special dietary needs also.

I am writing after dining here on Saturday night. Me and my girlfriend hadn't dined here before but i had heard good things. On Arrival we were sat at a table with a plant partially blocking being able to sit down comfortably. We were given menus and told of the specials, and had our food and drink order taken, Seconds later, another waitress then tried to take our drinks order again, seemingly little communication/organisation amongst staff. Once the food arrived i was a little disappointed to find that the confit chicken dish which was supposed to be served with parmentier potatoes actually came with 2 small cubes of potato and a plate full of pearl barley, something i am not very keen on and i found to be undercooked. I didn't complain as dont like to make a fuss. We then had our mains cleared and were offered a dessert menu by a man with glasses(possibly the manager) after a 45 minute wait a young girl came and asked if we required any more drinks, to her shock we asked for the dessert menu that clearly they had forgotten about. The Desserts (Espresso Creme Brulee and Cherry Bakewell) were both very good. All in all the Menu descriptions need a bit of work as they are a little misleading and the service was very disjointed and seemed to lack organisation.

We have visited The Alex Brasserie before but this time we went into the Cafe and Bistro because we had the children with us. The food and service were excellent, the staff efficient and friendly. This part of The Alex is for families and they cater accordingly with a childrens menu and food that is a little bit different for the adults, all very enjoyable. You have ot browse the menu and then book and pay at the bar but no hassles. High chairs available.

The first warm day of the year meant the town was heaving. The place was busy, anda little crowded to navigate. Downstairs you have to approach the bar to order so Iinteraction with serving staff is minimal, but what there was was fine. Food was tasty, if not exactly cheap, but you get what you pay for. Overall a pleasant brunch was had here.

It says something about eating out well in Felixstowe that in over 40 years of living just 14 miles away we have never eaten in the town before. Happily, our first experience was a good one and we are likely, if spared, to return to the Alex. Ate in the Brasserie at a window table overlooking the sea (get there early if you want one or book). Well prepared food, highly professional service and extremely good value for money, a really large portion of local mussels, for example, was only £10. Real baguettes that hadn't come from the freezer, very different to France these days!

Although our alcohol consumption was limited to Matron consuming a glass of Prosecco, as Bund was in charge of the motor car, the Wine List offered good choice at very reasonable prices. Wines supplied by Adnams too, a first class wine merchant for those who don’t know. Particularly gratifying is the simple purified carbonated water at just £1 per litre when the same stuff branded can easily cost £4!

Only slight criticism was that the food took a while to appear. As we were there at the start of service and the place was busy (queuing for the café downstairs) the implication is that later arrivals could have faced a long wait.
