“Great food but freezing in the conservatory!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2013

Had a great meal with my family and everyone was really impressed by the food. Prices were as to be expected for the area and location. We had our son with us so, as children were not allowed in the bar (?), we were put in the conservatory which was rather less cosy and very chilly. The pub has a room which is used for breakfast in the morning so it's a shame this was not used in preference to the conservatory in the winter months.

“The small touches”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2013 via mobile

Spent Christmas at The Ship and would go back again. Staff were excellent, friendly and helpful and no one seemed to mind working on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.
Little touches made it extra special - table top Christmas "tree" in room, given a present at breakfast on Christmas Day.
Food was great as always and the usual generous portions even though it was a full three course meal on Christmas Day and Boxing Day evening. They were full for lunch both days and service on Christmas Day was slow but they did apologise and let you know yours would be next out. Speaking to staff later they realised they hadn't got it right so I'm sure they'll look at that for next time they do a 3 course set menu
It wasn't a bargain getaway but they're hard to find at Christmas. The food was great, the location peaceful and staff excellent and someone else did the cooking and washing up. A winner in my book

“Old fashion Pub with open fire and brilliant setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 9, 2012 via mobile

Stayed just down the road in a holiday cottage. The Ship was at the end of the road right next to a lovely beech. Idillic setting which incidentally started by seeing a fully grown wild Stag in the garden!
Back to the Ship.
This is a really nice place with lots of character and decent food and ale. It is not cheap but nowhere of a any standard is these days. The staff are relaxed and typical of a decent comfortable business.
This place is a real gem and very relaxed!

“Not the most welcoming”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2012

Arrived after kitchen closed. No offer of anything to eat. Staff rather diffident. Welcome drink though after walk from Westleton on a cold but dry day.
