“Afternoon tea - not what we expected”
Reviewed September 26, 2013 via mobile

We had a voucher for afternoon tea at this hotel from groupon. The voucher didn't cost much and our expectations weren't that high... Initially however we were disappointed to find the afternoon tea advertised cheaper than the price we had paid to groupon - not sure what happened there?!?!! The staff that served us were polite and attentive however the disappointment came when the food arrived - sandwiches were mediocre - rather heavy on the margarine... And the cakes were clearly shop bought. The bakewell fingers were clearly from a mr Kipling individual pack and whilst I don't have anything against shop bought cakes, I wasn't expecting them with an afternoon tea.... I guess the moral of the story is you get what you pay for...

Thank you for your review. We are disappointed that your experience with us was not as you expected. We can confirm that advert for tea that is in the hotel is for Tea and Scones only, whereas the Groupon vouchers include Cakes and Sandwiches also. Nevertheless, your feedback is very welcome and we do hope to have the pleasure in welcoming you back to the Hotel again in the future.

Was really taken back by Brome Grange when we arrived, the room was fantastic very clean and a very comfortable size with en-suite, the restaurant was very nicely decorated and the food was of a very good standard, a small problem with flies which I'm sure they are aware of, the staff were extremely friendly and you couldn't fault their service at all, over all me and my wife had a fabulous three days at Brome Grange and the surrounding areas and would thoroughly recommend a stay their

Have been past Brome Grange mean times on the way to Norwich so thought we would give it a try.The Hotel had been closed for a period of time so when it re opened we booked a two night stay through Secret Escapes.
On a late arrival we checked in a very friendly young lady showed us to are room number 22 - on first impressions was not to bad - so we settled in and went for a drink in the bar.
On returning we heard a strange noise coming from next door as if we were next to a boiler room - I couldn't sleep so phoned through to reception and they said it was the heating system so they turned it off peace!
Next Morning was awoken at 6am with the same noise could not sleep!
Before breakfast we asked to be moved as I am a light sleeper and couldn't put up with the noise for a second night.
The girl was very polite and said she would move us to a quieter room at the back of the Hotel - We were surprised at the nice room they had put us in (as it was vacant on the Friday night) we were surprised they had not used it for us then and saved all the hassel of moving.
The Hotel Breakfast was ok nothing special - The evening meal was of a better standard we had a good starter of salmon and prawns and goats cheese and salad - Mains had a few supplements on for the steaks which was understandable.
But everything was of a good standard and arrived on time and hot could not complain with the service or meal.
The hotel is in the process of refurbishment so I am sure when little things are ironed out it will be a decent Hotel.
It was a pleasant stay and all the staff were very polite and friendly.

Room Tip: Rooms away from road at back of hotel are better

We had a 2 night stay with dinner on the 1 st night at this hotel. We were very pleased with the room, ours was ground floor in the court yard. King size bed very comfy and relaxing. Bathroom clean and suitable.
Dining room nice clean tidy. Bar fairly small but good for what we needed.
Outside looked tired and in need of tlc. But they said in a letter in the room that the family have only just taken over in dec 2012 and are doing improvements which you can see. And there is a board with their plans on it just inside the entrance for you to look at.

So now for the bits we feel need a look at....

Staff very friendly and polite but not great at looking around as to what customers needs are, sitting at dinner order another drink, it arrives she moved the empty glass to put down the new drink without taking it away.
One waitress walked past our finished with dinner plates twice before picking them up.
Breakfast both mornings were the same just lack of thought on serving tables.

The photos on website give the front of the hotel as nice and relaxing. I was looking forward to being able to sit out there with a glass of wine and my book but the photos must have been photoshopped as not what I saw!

All in all we enjoyed our stay but glad we got it on a wowoucher deal as we would have been disappointed if we had of paid full price. ( at that we would have pointed out our disappointments to them, as it was it was worth the £99. )

Stayed for a long weekend for a birthday usiing a Groupon Voucher - there were no standard rooms available when I booked so I had to purchase an Executive room voucher for extra cost. The check-in was easy and we got shown to our room. The room was really lovely, in the oldest part of the building and very tastefully decorated with plenty of space. There was a large bathroom with walk in shower. Negative - the suite was over the bar and restaurant - this meant that from 7.30am until around 11.30pm we could hear music, talking, coughing and laughing through the floor and walls. I really wish that I had been warned about the noise in the room as I am a light sleeper and despite earplugs I didn't get the rest I had hoped for and found it very frustrating. Also my partner is very tall and he struggled with the double bed we were in because it didn't give us enough room - I am quite sure that room could accomodate a king size bed which would only add to the luxury feel of the room.

We had 3 course dinner on the first night which was nice but the service was a bit haphazard. Waiting staff were getting confused over which meals belonged to which table. However, that being said the staff at the hotel were all very pleasant and helpful. The food was a good standard in the evening and at breakfast.

Checkout was fine but I was never asked if I enjoyed my stay!

Room Tip: The Grange Suite is over the bar and therefore you do get noise carried up from downstairs - ok if y...

Stayed on 21 September 2013 for one night B&B via Groupon. The room was lovely, spacious and very clean. The food in the restaurant was good but the service let it down. The staff tried their best but the Management was conspicuous by his/her absence. For our evening meal on the Saturday night, we were seated quickly and our order was promptly taken, however we waited for 50 minutes for our starter to arrive, Once we mentioned this to a member of staff , our starter arrived within minutes, leaving us to think it had been sitting in the kitchen waiting all the time. The main course arrived quickly and was hot and delicious. Breakfast service the next day was, I am sad to say, no better. The staff tried their best but there seemed to be confused over who was responsible for what. We were quickly seated and told our order would be taken shortly. We waited 30 minutes for our order to be taken. Whilst we were waiting for our food, we were then asked twice, by 2 different members of staff, if we wanted to order! We had to help ourselves to tea and coffee, which was fine, but there was no milk despite being told it should be on the table and some would be brought to us. It never was! You could have any type of tea you wanted from Earl Grey to Camomile so long as you didn't want traditional english tea. There wasn't a traditional traditional english tea bag to be had! The Management should have definitely made their presence known, the staff were friendly and tried hard to ensure everyone's needs were met but were clearly overwhelmed by the workload even though it didn't seem particularly busy. There seemed to be no clarity over who was responsible for each table. We would stay again but only on another money saving deal as the service does not warrant the full price tariff.
