When we drive from Surrey to Norwich to babysit for our grandchildren we try to arrange the timing so we can stop off at The Boars in Spooner Row for a meal. it has a limited but superb menu and there is always variation....a few basic but delicious standbys and favourites but some adventurous cooking as well. The owner is very knowledgeable about wine and his wife presents the food in an imaginative fashion with a touch of the 'nouvelle cuisine.' Eating in the pub room or the dining room one always feels welcome. Our recent visit was no exception.

The Boars has to be one of the best locations in Norfolk for relaxed but exceptionally fine dining with a limited but no less discerning wine list and well kept ales. The atmosphere is friendly yet efficient and the food offer never disappoints; high quality ingredients, perfectly cooked and superbly presented.

We prefer to eat in the bar if there are a few of us but the dining room is perfect for larger groups. Located just off the A11, the Boars always gives a welcome whether you are a seasoned regular or a first timer.

Lovely place for Sunday lunch, very welcoming atmosphere, great choice on the menu, slightly expensive thought but it was a lovely meal! Didn't like the Yorkshire puddings though!!

The friendly pib welcomes visitors and serves superb food. The beer is always spot on and there is a great selection of wines and whiskies. The atmosphere is good and the landlord always willing to please.

You know when you walk into an unfamiliar village pub and everyone turns around and looks you up and down, sussing out who you are and if you belong. Well, The Boars is nothing like that! We had been driving around the area on a Saturday evening, unfamiliar with the area, looking for somewhere to have our evening meal. When we entered, we were greeted by the owner, who made us feel so welcome, we felt like we had been there dozens of times before. We were offered a drink from the excellent wine selection and seated in the dining area. The atmosphere was relaxed and the surroundings carefully and tastefully decorated - a perfect example of rustic charm. My husband and I both ordered the sirloin steak from a wonderful menu of locally-sourced produce. Our steaks were cooked exactly to our requirements and served with divine, hand cooked potato wedges, brandy and peppercorn sauce, mushrooms and cherry tomatoes on the vine. We then both indulged in the treacle ice cream and flapjack dessert, which was to die for! The service was excellent and the whole dining experience was wonderful. We will certainly be returning to sample the menu further.

What a lovely review. Sometimes trade can be difficult when you are hidden away like we are, but when we read a review like this it makes it all seem worthwhile. Thank You!
