This restaurant/cafe reminded my husband and I of holidays in Germany. Wiener schnitzel and crab mornay were extremely good - and filling. They were big platefuls - we didn't need dessert. However, I was not entirely convinced that everything was cooked to order - it seemed prepared in advance - nothing wrong with that I guess. The chips and peas that were served with our meal were fairly average. This was good homely cooking - to fill you up - not 'fine dining'. However, the prices were more expensive than a 'fine dining' restaurant we ate at in Sheringham. The Wiener Schnitzel was £18.95. We had no problem getting a table - we had not booked in advance - but they can take probably a max of 16 persons - so if you want to eat here I suggest booking in advance.

As a long established restaurant on Sheringham High Street the Austrian cuisine provides a range of dishes not available elsewhere in the town. A board outside regularly announces that the restaurant is fully booked both for lunchtime and evening opening and with only half a dozen tables divided into booths by curtains booking is essential. The tables are generally for four and if there are only two of you, tables may be shared. This is a shame as the nature of the restaurant has a potentially romantic feel to it.
Other than its small size the next thing the new customer notices is just how uncomfortable the backs of the bench seat in the booths are. Like the restaurant they have been there for years and as you sit forward to eat or talk to your companions this is quickly forgotten.
In addition to the menu there are usually a couple of specials such as meat pie or roast lamb which add a more British element for the customer. The menus however are family friendly and while children find the booths a new experience it is not a place for the restless child
The service is very personal and the food tasty and plentiful. Puddings are worth making space for and the coffee is of a good standard.
The front door to Crofters is invariably open when the weather allows and to the first time visitor it is easy to miss a small sign which says the establishment does not accept credit or debit cards. Cash then is the order of the day, but don’t let this put you off as if your staying around Sheringham, Crofters is well worth a visit.

this place is a delightful and cosy bistro type place with cute gingham curtain cubicles. the food is really filling and tasty - i had crab gratin and a feather steak, followed by apple pie. Delicious and I'll return.
