We have just returned from a surprise "romantic getaway" at The Dales. All I knew was that we were going to a place near Cromer. On the way we stopped at Holt - and had a great pub lunch annd checked out all the shops - another lovely place! When we arrived at The Dales, I was completey bowled over! What a stunning place. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. signing in was really quick and then when we got to the deluxe room, I was again knocked out. It was just superb with a gorgeous 4-poster bed and a beautiful bathrrom. We went for a walk on Sheringham beach and looked around some galleries and antique shops then came back to The Dales and had dinner in their restaurant. The food was out of this world and the staff were so friendly & polite. The open fire was so warming and made a lovely atmosphere on Burns night.

We did have a small problem with a strange humming noise in the room that was difficult to locate. It was intermittant so not really a continuous problem. Again, the staff ( Elly in particular) went out of her way to try to remedy it and offered tomove us if it was a problem. She even gave us a discount and a voucher for one free night to accommodate any inconvenience.

We would certainly recommend it and we are already looking forward to our next trip in the summer. Its an excellent place for a break and looked like a perfect venue for a wedding.

Stayed 2 nights at the Dales with members of my extended family. I was pleasantly surprised after some of the reviews I had read.
We had 4 rooms between us; 3 superior and 1 deluxe. All the rooms were spacious and comfy with pleasant views of the lovely gardens or surrounding countryside. Perhaps some people might find the decor and furnishings a little tired as some previous reviews have pointed out. However, this is an old building and on the whole I felt that the oak furniture and traditional style were in keeping with the interiors.
The dining room is really beautiful and there was a real log fire burning at breakfast which , by the way, was excellent.
The real bonus here are the staff who go out of their way to make the guests feel welcome. The Dales is certainly not trendy or stylish but in my opinion, It makes up for this by being a lovely quirky old house in beautiful surroundings with friendly and helpful staff.

My wife & I are OAP's but have NEVER stayed any place quite like this place with such a sour faced miserable bunch of (older than us) people!
During dinner/breakfast etc they just sat & either stared into space or shut their eyes - did not converse at all - and if you dared to laugh whilst conversing youselves one immediately was stared at as one must have broken the silence - it was unbelievable!
I would not recommend the room no.7 which we were given as it overlooks roof area/fire escape, next to lift, above kitchen area & when next door has a 'wee' you get deafened! It was big & comfortable enough BUT AVOID! As we were only in for a few nights & only used in evenings we put up with it.
Food & service was adequate, staff friendly & a few of the 'younger' oldies seemed ok but the majority were from a different planet! As we were visiting relatives etc in area, will have to assume we were just unlucky in our choice of week to be there as other reviewers seem to have really enjoyed their stay.

You must go and stay here - from the moment we arrived to when we checked out we felt like we were being spolit. On our arrival we were offered a cup of tea or coffee, which we enjoyed in the beautiful gardens - while watching someone playing tennis. Our room was spacious with views over the coastline, and was wonderfully clean! Having only stayed 1 night, we did enjoy dinner in the Restaurant, the food was extremley good - a very nice touch was the canapes before dinner. All the staff where polite and nothing seemed to much bother.
We would recommend that you stay here if you want a relaxing stay away and want to feel well looked after.

This is the kind of hotel we suffered in the 1980s. It's shabby, damp and depressing. Please don't go to The Dales for a romantic weekend. It might ruin your relationship. A massive make-over is required. Change everything: From the stained polyester waistcoats worn by the staff, to the shabby carpets patched with tape to the unspeakable curtains in my bedroom. By the look of it they are staging a gradual facelift. They should close down and just get the work done. This is the kind of hotel Clark Griswold might have the misfortune to stay at. After fighting my way into my over-furnished bedroom the first thing I saw was a perky guest questionnaire on the bed. Where to start? I didn't have the heart. Instead I watched one of the four channels available on the TV before falling asleep to the sound of snoring seeping through the paper-thin walls.

Spent New Year here (we go away each New Year'Eve to a different place) - New Years Eve and the next night.
Like a pair of old slippers, the Hotel is not modern and a little worn but is oh so comfortable.
The staff and the food were excellent. The location is rural and in summer must be beautiful.
Within reach is Norwich, Sandringham, Walsingham and the seaside.
We were in room 8 with a four poster bed - very hard mattress but that suited us.
If you want a quiet bit of decadence with staff that will try to accommodate your every wish it’s for you.
