“Motive v Opportunity”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

If you have a motive to visit this area of Norfolk, take the opportunity to stay at this hotel...whilst Beechwood House has all the comforts Miss Marple remembered from her youthful visits to Bertram's Hotel- there is nothing bogus about the standards of service or qualities of the staff. Reasons to stay here - The Big Four: 1. This hotel is a very, very fine example of a well run, independent and extremely comfortable place to stay. 2. Not a spider's web in sight; immaculate standards of housekeeping. 3. Hospitable and friendly; you won't feel like the unexpected guest. 4. There are no underdogs here; Your dog is welcome. So, whether you are going by the Plymouth express, the 4.50 from Paddington or just your car, don't hesitate to stay here. Highly recommended to all Conan Doyle fans...

Room Tip: All rooms of a very high standard.

Attention to detail, excellent service and great food make this hotel one to return to. Really enjoyed our overnight stop, the four poster bed was fab and the bedroom well laid out. The rear garden is delightful, beautifully kept and with the sun shining we couldn't resist a drink outside. Perfect.

Having never been to Norfolk we decided to take a short break in June. I looked at trip adviser and saw the Beechwood Hotel was in an ideal location for our visit. I checked Tripadviser and was pleased with the comments so booked a weekend break. How glad I was that I did that. From the moment we arrived the owners and staff made us welcome and catered for our every need. The room was decorated to a high standard and with every amenity. Quality was apparent in everything including the bedding, the bed and the service. The food was excellent with a good choice both for breakfast and evening meal. We were also treated to a complimentary cream tea in the large well maintained garden. Thank you Beechwood for a lovely weekend.

My wife and I spent four happy nights here in June. Rooms, service, garden view all very good to excellent. Breakfast and dinner excellent+. Though not directly on the coast, North Walsham is convenient for day drives to all of the North and Northeast Norfolk seaside locations, as well as grand manor houses and gardens.

We booked Beechwood House following a planned visit to Norfolk and coming across their website, the rooms and reviews were good, however, this place has to be seen to be believed. I am very fussy and it was lovely to stay somewhere with large room, fabulous very large four poster bed, quality bedding, claw foot bath and wonderful fittings. The food was just excellent, everything so good, the staff so friendly and Don and Lindsey just amazing. Their recommendation of shopping in Holt and visiting East Rushton Old Vicarage gardens made the day, followed by complimentary cream tea. The other guests were also chilled from being so well looked after. Just the place to get away from it all and take the break we all deserve. This is definitely the place to stay, fully recommended, looking forward to returning.

Room Tip: Garden rooms if you want a place to sit outside, but all rooms are quiet and same standard, we staye...

Are you fussy like me? This hotel understands the needs of its guests and aims to please.
Complimentary up-grade of room and afternoon tea with scones. Large bedroom with the
most comfortable four-poster bed and quality bedding and pillows. Immaculate bathroom -
large and solid and everything works! Evening menu with good choice - our meal was quite
delicious as was breakfast. Lovely garden and large car park. Just perfect.

Having never been to north Norfolk before I did an Internet search for hotels in the area. The only one that consistently came up on the search engines was The Beechwood. What a find!!

Don and Lindsay have obviously worked very hard to get the hotel to the standard it is and it's as near perfect as you will get. We have stayed in 5* hotels that don't come close to the standard of this hotel.

On our arrival, a young man came out to the car park and asked if he could help with our bags. The next time we saw the bags was in our room. Nobody hanging around for a tip, they were just left neat and tidy in the room. On booking in we were taken on a brief tour of the ground floor of the hotel and informed of the necessary info regarding dinner that evening, orders for newspapers, breakfast, etc.

We had friends who live in the area joining us for dinner on our first evening. They had told us that the hotel was "very posh". It's not posh it's just very nice and very relaxed. The food was superb that night and for the next 3 nights of our stay. When they say its a 3 course set menu, don't believe them. It's not!!! Nibbles before, appetisers, velouté, starter, main, dessert, coffee and chocolates/petit fours. It's a feast!!!

The choice at breakfast is plentiful and portions very good. I had to ask for half portions which was more than sufficient for me.

Our bedroom wasn't huge but adequate and the bed was very comfy and the bath/shower room was beautiful, equipped with everything you need including lovely smellies. We didn't hear any other guests whilst in our room and slept well.

The staff are a credit to Don and Lindsay. I have never stayed in a place where you couldn't single out at least one member of staff that could maybe do with a little staff development. But not here. Thanks to you all.

There's lots to do in the area to keep you busy for a few days or longer and I can thoroughly recommend The Beechwood.

We will be back. (Sorry lads!!!)
