We have just spent one night at Morston Hall and enjoyed a wonderful evening meal there. Having eaten at some of the best restaurants in the country, I can honestly say that I have not experienced any better food anywhere. The service was reasonable, but the sommelier was thrown in at the deep end on his second day as a stand in so was out of his depth. However, I admired his honesty and friendly nature so enjoyed the entire experience. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who enjoys fine food with fabulous surroundings. Thank you for making our wedding anniversary such a wonderful occasion.

What an amazing place. My wife is gluten and corn free. Staff were hugely aware and respectful of the intolerances, and made sure we had a fabulous time at dinner. Rooms were perfect and breakfast was delicious. We cannot wait to return.

If you love Norfolk, food, wine, more food, great service, great accommodation and more outstanding food then book a night and meal at Morston Hall, you will not be disappointed.
The food at Morston is second to none. Attention to detail and flavour is exceptional. The service given by all the waiting staff, and hotel staff, is also second to none. Their knowledge of ingredients used and methods of cooking was in depth and it was a real pleasure to be given quick and concise answers to any questions asked about the food or wine being served to us. My gluten free partner was made to feel welcome with her own freshly baked breads at dinner and breakfast. The sommelier knew his stuff, as he should, and the wine flowed freely with the wine flight served at dinner. Some Michelin restaurants can be quite unfair with wine flights, not at Morston. Breakfast was just as impressive, more laid back, as dinner the night before. It would have been nice to see other guests sticking to the dress code for dinner, if only out of respect for such a fantastic team of cooks selected by Mr Blackiston. Jeans and an un-tucked short sleeved shirt just doesn’t do the place justice!
The bedroom was impressive and well appointed. Much more space than in most rural hotels. The bathroom was luxurious and clean.
We will be back.

I was in 2 minds whether to post a review about our stay in Mortson Hall in November because we had such a mixed experience but upon seeing other recent reviews I felt it was appropriate for me to do so. It was difficult to decide upon a final star rating and have given an only average rating due to our experience at dinner on our first night, because dinner is included as part of the package to stay.

We arrived on a Fri afternoon for a birthday weekend treat for me. We enjoy eating good food, have eaten at a number of Michelin Starred restaurants both in the UK and abroad so were very much looking forward to staying at Morston Hall.

Our room was in the annexe and was very spacious, modern and generally well maintained. The ensuite bathroom was very well equipped too tho' the shower didn't work properly tho' we did mention this to reception and it was repaired for the next use.

We were very much looking forward to dinner on the Friday evening but alas ended up being very disappointed and querying whether we wanted to eat there again on the Saturday. We found dinner on the Fri eve, uninspiring, boring, pretty tasteless, some underseasoned, some overseasoned, the fish very overcooked. We were both very deflated and towards the end angry. We passed our comments on each course and asked that our feedback go back to the kitchen. Towards the end of service Galton came out to speak to some people he appeared to know but bypassed our table. At the end of servive the Head Chef, Richard, came out to see us. He apologised that we didn't enjoy the food but stood by his view that the food was fine, not under/overseasoned/overcooked and that he had been on the pass checking the food leaving the kitchen. His comments felt rather like a slap in the face as it inferred that we couldn't possibly know what properly cooked and seasoned was like. We did mention that the weekend was my birthday treat and that the meal just didn't live up to the standards we expected of a Michelin Starred establishment. What puzzled us even more was that noone else complained which made us query our own judgement to start off with but even upon reflection it was definitely a poor meal and experience. We also wonder what a Michelin insepctor would have made of that dinner.

We decided to sleep on it and have breakfast the next morning before deciding whether to dine there on the Saturday evening. Breakfast was excellent on both mornings so no complaints there.

Upon visiting reception after breakfast they told us they would not be charging for dinner the previous evening and asked if we'd stay to dine that night. We told them we'd make a decision and let them know in the afternoon. Since breakfast had been so good we decided to dine there again on Saturday, not least because there's not much choice locally without having to drive. Saturday evening was like dining in a different establishment! Before dinner, Richard delivered 2 glasses of champagne to our room whilst we were getting ready for dinner. Dinner itself was a massive improvement on the previous night and was more what we had expected on Friday. The fish course was still a little overcooked but overall the restaurant went from 2/10 on fri to 8/10 on Sat. We also had the wine flight which we felt matched every course perfectly but one.To top it off, Richard brought out a belated birthday cake for me after dinner had ended.

So, all in all a mixed review but Morston did its best to make up for a poor dinner on Fri which went a long way towards correcting Fridays efforts.

However, it's unlikely we will return unless Morston picks up its game again.

We stayed between Christmas and New Year for a relaxing family break with lots of fresh air. We certainly achieved this at this rural retreat close by salt marshes with good walking from the hotel.

We took two rooms in the main house both were spacious and with good seating and bathrooms. Decor is traditional and slightly faded country house rather than country house chic. Every need is addressed with robes, coffee and tea making, fresh milk, good bathroom products and comfortable beds. One room was icily cold on arrival but after a call to reception and some extra heating it warmed up.

The hotel has a welcoming and relaxed feel with a lovely open fire in the reception hall and various other places for drinks and tea. Staff are friendly relatively informal and helpful. Tea and coffee is provided downstairs in a separate lounge if preferred.

The hotel is really a backdrop for the excellent restaurant which we ate in as part of an inclusive deal. The format is a set tasting menu with no choice until the dessert although tye chef is very accommodating if a particular course is not wanted. We liked the extensive use of locally sourced produce and the range of flavours offerred over the seven courses. Perhaps it would be better to have an alternative shorter menu if staying for several days. The food is however interesting and well presented.

We enjoyed our stay and made use of the wide range of walks within easy reach.

Room Tip: We liked Sandringham and Blickling in the main hotel with good views of the garden

A wonderful magical stay, where the staff are attentive and understanding to their guest. We were greeted and then left to enjoy a truly unique and unforgettable experience. Morston Hall is situated on the North Norfolk coast where the atmosphere and location enhances the mood and quality of the place. To set us up for dinner, we walked along the coast to Cley and then back to our beautifully presented room, ready to be wowed with the food. I can put my hand on my heart and say that I was not disappointed.

From the understated elegance of the lounge for our before-dinner drinks, to the subtle luxury of our table for the sumptious meal, where the sommelier was professional yet discrete personified. The food had a timeless quality, where taste came first. I loved every course that came our way. I am planning our 20th wedding anniversary to try and re-capture that ethereal moment in our lives. Encore!

We stayed here as a wedding anniversary treat, we read the reviews and were really looking forward to a great stay with some fantastic food, what a disappointment, the room was fine, but although they advertised wi Fi, the signal does not reach the annexe rooms, not good in these times. So we overlooked that and made our way to dinner, the set menu looked interesting, but the reality was quite poor, under seasoned dishes that at best were not as good as bistro's we eat in regularly in Norwich for far less cost. On to breakfast, and as requested I ordered kippers the evening before, when we go to breakfast I reminded them that I had ordered kippers, the waiter returned after 5 minutes to tell me that they didn't have any.

So overall an expensive over hyped hotel that we definitely will not return to.
