“Love the seals”
Review of Searles Sea Tours

Searles Sea Tours

The trip takes just under an hour each way so remember warm clothing and waterproof might be needed even if its not raining. When we got there the captain run the boat onto the sand bank so we sat there in amongst the seals, large, small and babies. Some were worried about us so shot into the water and raised they heads to watch us, watching them, it was wonderful. To get off the sand bank we all to go to the back of the boat, which caused lots of giggles. Down side would have loved the chance to buy a cup of tea. Also more commentary would be really good. But the staff were very friendly, they lent out binoculars for those without, the children were allowed in with the captain. All this for 15.00 pounds so worth every penny.

This tour is for everybody who likes wildlife and is friendly enough so everybody can do it and enjoy, including OAP and disabled people as the boat where you board is amphibious with a wide entrance and helpful staff to help you along the way. After 10 to 15 minutes you need to change to another boat that used to be a fishing boat but no worries as the amphibious one "parks" next to the other one and, again, a path links both boats so everyone can change smoothly. Much different from other seal's tour I've taken before in Norfolk.
Once on board you'll have a 45 minutes to one hour "ride" on sea and finally you get to the sand bank where this huge seals colony live. We could enjoy the seals in sea and then in land as the water flow went down. It was very exciting for all family. We were able to see the seals quite close and well for half an hour as the boat turned and turned so everybody could see them. We were able to see the first pups of the year! Very exciting!
On board, there's a lot of information about "The Wash" and the seals and staff also provide you more information. Binoculars are advised but if you don't have a pair, staff will lend you one or you have another option which is buying a pair during your tour.
Some souvenirs are also sold on board.
A 2h30 tour at sea requires safety information and some specific facilities such as toilets which was provided.
I'm not exactly sure but I think the fee for this trip is around £ 15.00 per person (no concessions) which is worth it, believe me.
We had a great day out!

We were very impressed with the trip, value for money @ £15 each. A bit of an adventure transferring from the Wash Monster to the Sea Lion and back. A nice trip to seal island (Wash not too choppy) and when we got there dozens of seals lying basking in the sun and a few pups that had only been born the previous weekend. Would thoroughly recommend this trip to anyone who likes marine wildlife.

Searle's Seal Trip is really enjoyable and highly recommendable for kids. 'Have been going since the 70's with groups of Italian students and they have always had fun and appreciated it !! Don't forget to take a raincoat and possibly umbrella... in ALL weathers... we got soaked once leaving in bright sunny weather, but British weather offered a heavy, unexpected downfall !!! Be prepared and just go.. You won't regret it!

We'd been on boat trips from Morston quay before, to see the Blakeney Point seals, but had never before seen the seal colony in The Wash so thought we'd give Searles a try. They operate from right on the Hunstanton sea front, in a hut beside the Sealife centre. There is parking nearby, in the pay and display car park - but make sure you get your ticket for long enough! The Searles staff were knowledgeable and friendly, lending binoculars to anyone who needed them, and letting children visit the wheelhouse. The trip lasted around 2.5 hrs and, unlike the trips from Morston quay, where you have to take turns to go past the seals, ours was the only boat at the sandbank. There were plenty of seals to see and we got close enough to take good pics. A bonus was being ferried out to our boat by the "Wash Monster" amphibious craft, so you get two boats for the price of one.
