“Happy in Holt”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

We stayed at the Lawns in October last year and believe it or not the weather was fantastic. The Hotel is situated in the perfect position in this lovely town with great parking and close to all the shops pubs and restaurants, but as the best wine bar and restaurant are at the Lawns you don't have to move too far.
The hotel staff are very efficient and friendly. The breakfast was fantastic and if you wanted extra helpings they were with you very quickly.
Holt is situated very close to the best walks in Norfolk so you can always work up an appetite for the great food at the Hotel.
We stayed in the large double rooms and they were huge and at £95 per night for the room very good value.
If you are staying in this lovely part of the country do not hesitate to book the Lawns.

What a great welcoming hotel in the lovely village of Holt. This is a small hotel but really makes up for it with the way we were treated. We stayed here with friends for a nearby wedding. really nice village feel, nice bar and conservatory, plenty of drop in customers. rooms were comfortable, clean and well appointed. the staff could not be faulted and even when we got stuck for a taxi at the wedding venue we rang to ask for a number and one of the hotel team nipped out and picked us up, how nice was that?
Breakfast was just lovely, fresh tasty served on warm plates.
Great value overnight stay. good location, nice village , plenty of hotel parking
No critiscims at all and heartily reccomended.

Comfortable, spacious, well-appointed, very clean rooms in a very attractive Georgian building with ample off-road parking and pleasant views. An OUTSTANDING restaurant, well chosen wines and very pleasant, friendly staff - all set in the beautiful Georgian town of Holt, all set in the terrific setting of North Norfolk - long beaches, great bird watching, rolling scenery, more magnificent Tudor buildings than you can shake a stake at. What else do you need to know?
NB Contrary to one previous reviewer we found the meal service extremely good - not rushed but not slow either and the quality of the food was excellent.

Room Tip: We only had experience of the outside chalet style room which was excellent in all respects save one...

After a couple of hours browsing the shops of Holt we stopped here for late morning refreshments. The conservatory was inviting but a number of people were already having lunch so we went through to the bar area. We settled on a large comfortable sofa. Ordered a pot of tea and a glass of wine at the bar. I had expected the beverages to be brought across to our table but they were put on a tray which I then proceeded to carry to the table. Given this is a hotel I was not expecting the self service element. That said I am told the wine was good, I had three good cups of tea from the pot and there was plenty of reading material on the large table.

The toilets were clean, sizable car park and outdoor seating for the warmer months.

Room Tip: Did not stay - only stopped for refreshments

We were drawn in for lunch on Saturday by the A-board outside proclaiming fresh locally-caught mussels, and they were truly delicious. We sat in the lovely sunny conservatory, and asked the young waitress for menus as she passed, having had no welcome from the uncommunicative barman. (My husband, having spent 43 years in the US, is still astounded that no one seems to want his money when we go into restaurants!) The waitress disappeared so my husband went to the bar to order our food. We waited too long for our meal, given that the restaurant was not at all busy. We were served silently by the waitress. What is needed is a "presence" or at least personable staff, and the prices whilst not hugely expensive require a much better level of service and customer care than currently available.

Nice hotel, clean and nice breakfast but attitude of owner leaves a bit to be desired had an argument at checkout, shame as it spoilt the weekend. We ordered some food and it came wrong would go back if the owner cheered up a bit !
