“An absolute delight!”
Reviewed November 11, 2013

We are lucky enough to be able to travel a good deal, and from Land's End to Inverness we've stayed in a wide variety of places in the UK. Taken all in, we think that John and Louisa have created one of the best, if not the best, places we have ever had the pleasure of visiting. The barn we stayed in, called Primrose, was certainly the largest room we've had all to ourselves, and was superbly furnished and equipped. We ate in one evening and the meal we enjoyed was simply wonderful. We lamb which Louisa slow- cooked that set a benchmark for all future lamb.
The surrounding area is full of interest, with Holt and Wells standing out for us. It looks a little remote on a map, but it only took us two and a half hours to get there from Kent. We will certainly return.

Room Tip: We really liked Primrose

We stayed in Primrose for three nights and it was absolutely delightful. There was nothing to fault. The owners were helpful, efficient and discrete - a winning combination. Primrose is spacious, nicely decorated and very comfortable; it has French windows for the summer and a log burning stove for the winter. It's a good location too, convenient for the coast, several country houses and Norwich. The little villages of flint houses and wide open skies make this a beautiful area of the UK.

We made a real mistake when we booked at White Horse Farm... we only stayed for one night! This is an absolutely idyllic place to stay, and our room, the B&B "Sweet Pea" was a delight. It's surrounded by beautiful gardens, so the only noise we ever heard was birdsong. The interior is gorgeous - all clean whites and Scandinavian-inspired designs, and there's enough space to spread out, too. Breakfast was delicious - a choice of traditional English breakfast, smoked salmon and eggs, or a continental breakfast, and all with fresh fruit, yoghurt and muesli. The little touches are great, too - we had homemade cake waiting for us on our arrival, and there's a kettle, tea and coffee in the room. Louisa, John and the lovely (quiet and friendly!) dog, Ella, are all incredibly hospitable - they made us feel very much at home, whilst never seeming over-bearing. And White Horse Farm is perfectly located for many of Norfolk's treats - the stunning coastline, complete with seals at Blakeney, fantastic pubs, great National Trust properties and unspoilt beaches. We're already looking forward to going back...

Room Tip: We stayed in the B&B, called Sweet Pea. It's quiet, spacious and clean - with parking on-sit...

Living just north of Hitchin, we have travelled to Norfolk for the last 10 years for weekend breaks and have occasionally stayed in some very charming and expensive accommodation as a treat in life, (Hoste Arm's, Byford's) and we have also used a few good websites to find a nice place to stay such as, Sawdays, Norfolk Hideaways and The Blakeney Cottage Company. Finally we have found the Holy Grail, a last minute booking on Friday afternoon found us in Primrose Cottage, 5 mins away from the coast hidden away in the peaceful village of Gunthorpe. The owners were charming and very helpful, the spacious barn was beautifully presented with a modern twist, tyrol fur throws on chairs near a very effective and seductive log burner, big windows looking out onto the grounds, all in all one of the most peaceful locations on earth. A big thank you to our hosts John & Louisa always present by their professional absence made one of our stays in North Norfolk the best. We would like to keep this a secret but that would be very unfair on our hosts. Nearby local food shop 'Back to the Garden' is also worth a visit for it's local food produce and experienced butchers and deli counter staff.

My new wife and I spent our wedding night here. We found a bottle of Champagne on ice when we arrived and a slice of lovely moist lemon drizzle cake. The breakfast was amazing; lovely scrambled eggs, fried mushrooms and tomatoes, real butter, nice jam, proper selection of toasted breads, honey and yoghurt, cereal, real orange juice. John and Louisa, the owners are really lovely hosts who really made every effort to make our stay special. A really beautiful location and stunning buildings with real character. Highly recommended.

We rented all five properties for ourselves and our four married children and two grandchildren (under 4) over a long weekend. It's not exactly child friendly but it worked as we had taken all the cottages. Also the lovely owners had put in a baby gate on the stairs of our daughter's two-bedroom cottage. It was our Ruby Wedding so they also provided champagne on arrival, much appreciated! A local Waitrose delivered the food right on time.
Each cottage is distinctive and comfortable with satellite tv and free wi-fi. Ours (Walnut) was very large with an excellent kitchen and the owners were relaxed with us moving chairs around to be together wherever it suited, including a group barbeque the first night.
The grounds are extensive with an excellent grass tennis court. The netting wasn't quite complete but one of the owners provided tennis balls so we didn't run out. We brought our own mini croquet which also worked well.

Room Tip: Each barn is distinctive as were our children, so it worked well. Ours had a garden view as distinc...
