“Vegetarian delights at The Pigs”
Reviewed April 17, 2014

We had an evening meal at The Pigs just before Easter. It was busy, but possible to book a table on the same evening. I started with some crunchy cockle 'popcorn', while 'the blond' had tempura cauliflower with a pickle dip. My Binham Blue (a local cheese) bread and butter pudding was extremely tasty. The accompanying savoy cabbage was too, although copious seasoning meant you couldn't taste the nutmeg. His beetroot and shallot tart with goat's cheese was equally tasty. The salad was well-considered. We were impressed that the chef had produced two such fine vegetarian dishes on the menu. North Norfolk is an area where we generally found him being a 'vegetarian' was a dirty word!! The friendly staff made an excellent wine pairing for my main course. Two fine puddings followed. Highly recommended.

“Terrific food”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

Stopped for lunch and came back for dinner! The menu is much more interesting than the usual pub food. For lunch we both had Cromer crab, simple but delicious. Dinner was, smoked prawns for my partner and deep fried cockles for me, followed by three types of pork, and for me, liver and bacon. It was all beautifully presented and superbly cooked.

“Good in parts”
Reviewed April 6, 2014

Four of us had an "iffit" lunch at The Pigs. Iffits are small dishes costing £3.50 each and are known as "Norfolk Tapas". We enjoyed cockles, prawns, whitebait, deep fried blue cheese, spare ribs, duck and prunes, pigs' ear strips, and deep fried cauliflower - they were all enjoyable. The pub itself is more of a large rambling restaurant with rooms than a traditional country pub. There were only a few other customers and the atmosphere was functional without much character or ambience. The drink prices were OTT with modest wines costing from £18 per bottle and real ales {Adnams, Woodfordes and Fox Brewery} at £3.80 per pint! The staff were efficient and friendly. The owners perhaps should be seen during food service. This is a place to go to eat rather than to stand at the bar chatting and socialising.
