“Rude staff rude signs”
Reviewed April 10, 2014

We only popped in to buy some crab to take away but we nearly turned back around. As you walk up to it there are off putting bossy signs everywhere telling you you HAVE to come in to be seated. Why? Why can't people sit down, settle in and then come up and order?

Then we overheard a woman who was spending lots of money to feed her family with children that they don't do tap water and she had to buy bottled. I was appalled! How tight fisted can you get?

Yeah the crab we bought to take away was fine but we could have bought as nice in Cley where were staying. If we had known before we bought it we wouldn't have bothered.

If you're looking for lunch try the Dun Cow instead!

“A smile would have been nice !”
Reviewed April 10, 2014

We often hear that wonderful food speaks for itself. At Cookies that would be a real advantage as it would mean we could have cut out the very rude and brusque waitresses. We had booked a very late lunch after a trip on the Poppy Line and our party of nine were looking forward to a slap up crab feast overlooking the fantastic Norfolk coast. We had taken our own wine but were immediately struck by the extremely abrupt service offered by the collection of East European staff who seemed to delight in telling us what was not available. Starting with a crab sandwich for one of the children which was only on the takeaway menu and not to eat in. Thereafter we were told that only large crabs were left so the signature Royal Crab salad was increased in price by a further £3. In short everything seemed to be a chore and while it is known as Cookies Crab 'Shop'and not 'Restaurant' they would be better suited to just retail work and not entertaining the public. The food was however excellent and a really quirky place. Where else can you eat a collection of fresh seafood straight from the sea and purchase Andrex toilet roll in the same location. Well worth a visit and it may indeed be part of its attraction but service is definitely not with a smile

“Great food, quirky place, awful, awful service”
Reviewed April 5, 2014

This place is fab, a rarity in England for great seafood nearish to the sea. BUT the service is enough to make you want to turn around and leave, which we very nearly did. They only take cash and we had limited cash on us. But we HAD to order two main meals or we wouldn't be allowed to stay, this we were told in no uncertain terms by a terrible waitress, with a strong foreign accent, if she is the owner then she is obviously not bothered about customers but if she is an employee she should be sacked! I don't know why there is such a terrible policy, it wasn't busy, I would go back purely for the food but maybe buy it to take home or take to the beach! Get some decent staff will you please!

“Excellent seafood”
Reviewed March 19, 2014

Popped in today for lunch while visiting nearby Holt, the food was excellent. It doesn't get fresher than this and you certainly can't be disappointed with the prices. The owner came out and offered to move a table so that we could make room for the pushchair, very friendly and helpful. Service was quick and attentive. You wouldn't come for a leisurely lunch but for beautiful sea food at a very decent price, this is it!

“extremely rude & surly waitresses”
Reviewed March 17, 2014

went in and ordered ice creams, there was no one else in the place and only a couple of people at tables. didn't want the order and took ages, we sat down at a table outside - it was rather cold so we weren't planning on staying more than the minute or two to eat the ice creams and there was no one else at any of the many tables. surly waitress came running out and told us in no uncertain terms that we could not sit at the table. (i will say that there was a charming chatty friendly man who worked behind the counter but didn't serve us)
- in the summer we came with 6 friends and sat outside everyone ordered lobster, one of our friends wanted a sandwich which he was allowed to order for take away only and not to eat it or sit at the table. this place is famous for the rudeness of the staff and the okness of its food
