Excellent takeaway selection of smoked fish, pates, and ices (including gooseberry). Strict martinet waitresses sounding like Bond villainesses but delicious plated meals selection (about £7.00 - compulsory if you want to sit down). Excellent value and lovely location for a sunny day.

We had an excellent experience, the food was superb and quite extraordinarily cheap for what we'd got.
There are repeated comments abou the service in other reports. We had not booked but the charming young woman behind the counter could not have done more to help to sort us a table. Also when there was a mix up over one of our orders (this could well have been our fault) it was changed with good humour and quickly.
We have eaten at Cookies several times and frankly do not recognise the restaurant which is criticised below, we have never received anything but first rate food accompanied by friendly, helpful and sometimes quite exceptional service.
It is not your run of the mill restaurant or your mass maket chain bu is an eccentric and charming product of a tiny fishing community, long may I continue as it is now.

This is one of the most unique places I've ever eaten at. Firstly, the great stuff is that this place specialises in really fresh and delicious seafood, and a stupidly cheap price. The only negative thing, food wise, was the bread, which was from a standard sliced supermarket loaf than anything better. As other people have commented, though, is the poor service, which isn't exactly friendly - you are also made to make a decision at the counter rather than sit down with a menu or anything. We didn't find the service inefficient, though, just not friendly. I guess it's a consequence of the high-turnover business model. Overall the food (and price) outweighs this massively and I was tempted to give 5 stars! Definitely be back.

...Unless you are a masochist. If you enjoy being treated like a naughty child and/or the strict adherance to pointless rules designed (as far as i can see) to ensure that your meal is eaten in a miserable and defeated atmosphere, look no further then Cookies. My father was told that he was not allowed to sit at the fouth chair on a table with the rest of our family becuase he had bought a crab sandwich whilst the rest of us had platters. He had to eat his food sitting in the carpark, 4 meteres away from us. For my auntie's 50th birthday meal we were told we were not allowed to move two tables together and were treated to repeated surly looks for asking. When eating at cookies as part of a friend's wedding party, we were treated to the rudest service yet before being shouted at. As the recent bride burst into tears we were told that we were welcome to leave if we didnt like it. We left.

Great food, but the manner it's served in is like Basil Faulty on downers.
