Old Plough House B&B
Ranked #10 of 27 Holt B&B and Inns
Reviewed July 31, 2013

I am a fussy person, so when we stayed in Norfolk for our daughters wedding, the hotel in Holt was full. A right result that was. As soon as I walked through the front door of the Old Plough House I knew I was in the right place. The house is beautiful, the décor is just lovely, I would move in tomorrow if I could!

Room was lovely, nice bed, shower, tea and coffee, even bottled water and biscuits. Great breakfast, great bacon! and lovely hosts.

I loved it and would stay there again and again and again!

Great owners, very friendly and have great knowledge of the area.
Very comfortable bedrooms, very good breakfast and a lovely central location for discovering North Norfolk. Pat and Pete are a very likeable couple. Nice touch in the bedroom to have bottles of water, a settee is included in the room and it a very nice place to relax.

Room Tip: Both of the doubles are excellent.

Pat and Peter run an efficient and effective BandB. They could not have been more helpful. Spotlessly clean and well run. The breakfast was 5 star full English. There was an excellent menu from fish to fruit salad. A very pretty and imaginative garden and a quiet location. Highly recommended. They are also good local guides.

Have just returned from a week spent at this superlative B&B. As other guests have remarked, Pat and Peter are perfect hosts, happy to make suggestions about places to eat and to visit, all of which proved excellent. The rooms were spotlessly clean and comfortable and the breakfasts exceptional. They even babysat plants that we had picked up during garden visits - nothing was too much trouble.

We stayed at The Old Plough House for 2 nights in June. The B&B is a very good base for 2 days of sightseeing. Peter and Pat were the perfect hosts, very friendly and helpful with any sightseeing idea/queries. Provided very helpful restaurant suggestions which we tried- Moorings, Wiverton Bell, Byfords in Holt which had gluten free options. The B&B is full of character and the rooms are exactly as shown on their website – we stayed in the Ochre and Blue rooms. Free wifi and plenty of tourist information available. Breakfast was of an excellent standard with plenty of choice from the menu [haddock, kippers, salmon and scrambled eggs] as well as cereal/ fresh fruit/yoghurts etc. We would highly recommend this B&B.

We were very well looked after throughout the whole three nights of our stay. A very good welcome from both Pat and Peter who looked after us and were very knowledgeable about the whole area.
The whole of the property was very clean. The breakfasts were really tasty and well cooked.
We would certainly stay again should we revisit the area.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Blue Room, comfortable with an excellent bathroom en-suite.

And that's what mine hosts Peter and Pat provide at this lovely B&B.

As all the other reviewers have said, 'The Plough' is a textbook example of how a guest-house should be run. The hosts obviously work hard to keep up the standards. Everything is spotlessly clean, and the landlord Peter is an amenable and friendly host who never flags or appears rude or indifferent to his charges, as he offers copious information about where to eat and visit. The house itself nestles in a delightful setting amidst a small rural hamlet, where no traffic noise or visual despoliation dares to intrude on the peace and harmony of the stay of visitors. The very pleasant gardens at the rear are open to guests, and upon our arrival some were partaking of tea in the summerhouse. Breakfast is a satisfying affair, and I was gladdened to see that apart from the English Fry-up (which my partner said was delicious) there are such things as haddock with poached-egg, and even kippers available That is good to see when you are so near the coast.

The rooms are comfortable and spotlessly kept, and although we had the ochre room over the kitchen - and as one reviewer has mentioned the noise - we encountered no significant disturbance to keep us awake during commencement of breakfast proceedings down in the galley below.

No, all in all, we can recommend the Old Plough House as a spiffing place to stay if you want to get away from it all for a while, and tootle about North Norfolk under it's capacious skies, or delve amongst the nooks and crannies of it's historic landscape..

Thanks for a lovely stay folks!
