After being served by an indifferent barman we took a seat in the bar and soon became aware of the foul stench coming from the carpets and seats around us. The tables were sticky and uncleaned. The ladies' toilets were disgusting- amongst the worse I've ever seen (and I've travelled in India) - and that's saying something! This is the only time I have ever been revolted enough to actually complain about the state of the toilets, but the bar maid was unapologetic.
Ask yourself this- if the landlord allows such poor standards of hygiene in his bar and public facilitites do you really think he's going to be a stickler for hygiene in his kitchen?
How this got listed in the Good Beer Guide is a complete mystery and I shall be telling them!
We left and shall never return.

After a great day in Norfolk ..was unlucky enough to find ourselves in this dirty smelly pub !Worse pub in Norfolk ...we paddled in the laddies toilets [not the sea] This pub has so much potential with its history and as it is the only pub in the village you would think the owners would make an effort [ outside is uninviting as well ]..The new coffe shop is never open [that was lucky!] will not be back!

Have been here several times as we often stay in Happisburgh but only for the beer which is good and only on a sunny day so we can sit outside. The interior has massive potential but is presently grubby and the carpet looks as if will need to be scraped clean rather than hoovered. I think its the source of an odour that reminded us of a urinal. Have tried the food once and never again ! poorly cooked and from the look of the place food hygene may not be top of the list. Landlord can be openly hostile to carelessly indifferent. He was friendly once but this was more unsettling than his usual demenour. The garden again has great potential but needs some attention as looks neglected. The volvo with its missing wheels at the end of it looks more inner city than country idyl. The beer festival is the highlight of this pub and to be fair its a great venue with good atmosphere (during the festival) and worth a visit. Camping on the ever shrinking (sea erosion) site next door makes it a good weekend venue.

Room Tip: Dont, until the place has had a good cleaning and tidy up

I am a chef and all the years, work in very hot and bad tempered kitchen , I can say with hand on my
heart all the cooks and chef care about the food we put on the plate, even when we have a bad day in the kitchen, we care,
this band of chimps, I would not let lose in a prison, kitchen, after all the inmates, may be the scum of
the earth but even they expect better then this!

Walked to Hill House as it was near to our holiday home. Very busy but friendly bar full of locals who, along with the landlord & staff, made us feel immediately welcome. Great roast ( well it was a Sunday ) and pudding. Must eat here again soon !!
