“Diss hotel did not 'dis(s)appoint”
Reviewed April 17, 2009

We realise that this hotel is still 'a work in progress'.
The tarriff of £65 per room per night, including breakfast ( of excellent local produce ) is very reasonable. We had dinner in the hotel on two evenings. The menu was extensive, reasonably priced, well cooked and presented.
Our room ( entitled a 'suite') was well furnished, but the bathroom, although clean, looked desperately in need of an update. We were assured that bathrooms and carpets are next on the list for replacement -- hence 'a work in progress'.
The flat screen, wall-mounted television refused to work. The delightful staff member who tried to remedy this, eventually went off to find us a portable set which would only allow us to watch 'snow'. We were transferred to the newly appointed 'bridal suite', in an annexe. The tv there also refused to work. The owner was due to return on the day of our departure and we assume she has made communication with the installer by now!
The hotel sits on a large corner plot between two rather busy roads, with several lorries plying up and down rather early in the morning. The garden area is well tended and attractive.Reception and waiting staff are all very pleasant with lovely smiles which we find to be something of a rarity in too many establishments these days.

Having stayed at the hotel for a long term i got to know the staff very well and i can honestly say that ALL the staff including the the tall bar person have gone well beyond the call of duty, the room was always clean and comfy and the meals are some of the best i have tried (check out the cavery on thursday and sunday, the beef just melts in the mouth), It was also my birthday while staying at the park, the staff made it one of the best birthdays iv ever had (thank you). i will be staying at the hotel again.

I have just returned from my stay at the park. The hotel is fantastic and the servise second to none. The staff are friendly and very helpful they make you feel like your in your own home nothing is to much trouble. The management team are great anything you want you will get.The rooms are clean warm and very well maintained, the food is excellent. I work away from home most of the time and would and will travel out of my way to stay at the park as will all my colleuges, it is an home from home.

Me and my family were on a day out a few weeks ago and thought that we will pop into the park hotel because we got told by a few friends of ours they do great lunch, it was very nice, very nicely designed on the plate but was very big portion which was great too. we loved the staff apart from a grumpy, tall, stressed lady who didnt smile much with her hair scrapped back behind the bar the waiter was slendid he looked after me and my family very well and all the customers around me, he always had a smile on his face and made me and my family laugh and smile we walked out leaving him a £5 tip with our mouths aching with laughter.

I also met the owner of the hotel who was very beautiful and made us welcome, she is defenantly the person who will sort out the women behind the bar.

I will defenantly go back.

thank you very much

  • Liked — the food and a few of the staff were excellent
  • Disliked — one of the staff, who wasnt happy at all, quit rude when serving our drinks

We booked the Park Hotel as we were in Norfolk for a wedding.

The website looked pretty impressive and it was close to where we needed to be for the wedding.

On arrival reception was friendly and efficient and the front of house well maintained. We were told about hotel facilities and generally felt welcome.

Our room was avarage - you could hear the people next door talking through the wall, and there were some minor cosmetic issues but it was not too bad.

What was not so good was the bathroom. In the hotel information booklet there was an A4 insert apologising about the bathrooms and explaining that they would be upgraded in June 2008. The bathroom was dated, but the problem was that it was only really surface clean. There was a lot of grime in the grouting and the bath and shower needed a proper deep clean.

Equally some of the exterior looked like it needed attention with peeling paint and debris - see the pics.

Breakfast was good and again the service was friendly and efficient.

I will be back in Diss in 6 months time but will try somewhere else next time.

We appreciate your feedback. We are aware of the issues raised in your comments about the bathroom as explained in our letter provided in the rooms.

There is work needing on the exterior, however, having only been at the hotel for a year (and with the poor condition the hotel was purchased in), our prioity was to focus on the interior to ensure our customers had a comfortable environment to stay in.

We can ensure all of the hotel, in time, will be to a standard you would expect and do hope you will return to us in the future.
