We have stayed in nine different Travelodge in the past 18 months spending a total of 3 months (and more than £3,000) in them. These comments apply pretty much to all the ones we have used - and I suspect most of the ones we havn't. It seems that Travelodge are looking to pare down the rooms to the absolute basics of bed and bathroom, and the standards have deteriorated at the same rate as the increase in prices. The wardrobes have been removed in favour of a shelf with a few hangers underneath (creating as I discovered a hazard for the head of the unwary!) The bedside shelves are a joke - they are so tiny as to be useless. The ‘tables’ seem to be shrinking to the extent that in order charge any electronics, in the only socket, they need to be placed next to the electric kettle. How can rooms so big have so little in creature comforts? The vast majority have no facility to eat (other than the pitiful ‘breakfast pack’) At least in times gone by they were often adjacent to a Little Chef).
The tea and coffee supplies are now minimal. The receptionist at this Travelodge was decidedly unfriendly. I noticed on arrival at 3pm that the rooms at the front were likely to be noisy so asked for one at the back. The response was 'no, we are fully booked' – a claim that was later shown to be untrue) . In future we will pay slightly more and get better facilities at Premier Inns.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back, but insist as I was told none we available

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about our Great Yarmouth Acle hotel.

We are sorry to learn of your disappointment with the facilities provided in our hotel rooms.

We feel that we offer all that is needed for a comfortable night’s stay. This includes a clean room, comfortable bed, tea and coffee facilities, flat screen T.V and an en suite bathroom.

We do not provide extras which other hotels may provide so we can keep our room rates low however we understand your frustration and we are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us.

Feedback is invaluable and our Hotel Managers regularly review their TripAdvisor reviews in order to fix any issues raised and pass on feedback to their team.

Thank you once again and we do hope you will stay with us in the future.

The hotel is basic but if you just need a clean bed for a night it’s perfect. It has a useful petrol station & M&S based directly across from the hotel & a starbuck for your morning coffee.
Asda was a ten minute drive away. Great Yarmouth about 15 minutes away.
Perfect for what we needed!

Despite using Travelodge for a number of years to allow us to go on small weekend family trips to the seaside and UK attractions, I am beginning to feel that Travelodge are not really trying as hard as they could to entice customers to return and stay loyal to the Travelodge brand. Our recent stay was excellent value coming in at just over £80 for a two night stay during the end of the school holidays. However the hotel we stayed in didn't have a Bar Cafe attached, and we don't find the breakfast packs available very appealing or of good value. The shower in the bathroom looked basic but they have excellent water pressure and temperature control (even better than our showers at home). However that said the hand wash and shower gel dispensers seemed impossible to use, and we had to nearer push ours off the wall before any gel or wash could be dispensed. Something that had never been an issue before. The toilet didn't drain away properly due to a very lack lustre flush. The overall room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. However the sideboard in the bedroom has an annoying Edge or Lip all the way around the edges which is actually more annoying than useful. The television was fine and the kettle does its job well. I just feel that Travelodge's competitors are trying harder and their rooms seem to us more comfortable with better fixtures and fittings. This is a shame to say, but our recent stay didn't make us want to rush back and return. The other unusual point of our recent stay is that staff on Reception did not seem bothered in the slightest that we were staying there. We were simply handed our room key, and that was it, no real Welcome or friendly talk. On leaving the hotel staff were also too busy talking between themselves to realise we were handing the key back, and only just mentioned the "Was everything ok with your stay" question, once we were halfway out of the door. In the past we had received much better customer service and numerous other Travelodge's around the UK. Although our family are not internet obsessed we did use the free 30 minutes of internet wi fi connection we were allowed in each 24hr period we stayed in the hotel. In this day an age though many hotels do not charge for wi fi, and in this day and age felt it was poor that Travelodge felt the need to charge customers for this service. We may be back, but I will check other hotels in the same area first I'm afraid.

We arrived not long after the check in time of 3.00pm, after a 2 1/2 hour journey.

The hotel is easily accessible and well located for Great Yarmouth and the Norfolk Broads.

The duty manager wasn’t particularly welcoming at the front desk. She checked us in and handed me a key to a room that we discovered had not been made up.

I returned to the reception area and after a protracted and confused exchange with cleaning staff, she gave us a key to another room. The room met the usual Travelodge standards; it was clean and everything worked.

The new design of a tiny recessed space in the headboard rather than bedside tables is ridiculous. There’s barely enough room for a mug much less anything else.

The following morning we went to Great Yarmouth, when we returned at 3.40pm, we were shocked and dismayed to discover that our room had again not been made up.

The duty manager suggested we had left a Do Not Disturb sign on the door, which we had not.

We were tired and upset and asked for another room, the duty manager said there were no more rooms available.

Five minutes later, a woman came in to enquire about booking a room for the night for herself and her parents and was immediately given a room, even though we were told no rooms were available.

We were tired after a long day out and now had to wait in the reception area for 25 minutes while the duty manager found someone to clean our room.

We were not offered an apology.

We had a lovely short stay in Norfolk, but our experience at this Travelodge was very disappointing. We’ve stayed at a number of their hotels over a number of years with never any issues.

This will be the first and only time we will be staying at this Travelodge.
