This was our second visit to this lovely pub as we had seen on our last visit that they had a special " pie evening " .

We were not disappointed.....had steak and mushroom pie with veg and choice of potato ...£6.95..... It was delicious ...

In fact is was sooooo good we have booked again for next week......however it was very busy this evening so it would appear that booking is probably essential .....

Very highly recommended.....

Visited today for first time after recommendations from friends .

Very pleasant welcome . Our seating options were limited to the immediate bar area or outside as we had our dog with us . Bar would've been fine but its a smallish area and being in between half a dozen blokes having banter and pints , wasnt quite the ambience what we hoped for . Were'nt allowed to sit in side section of bar as allegedly a party had booked it ( none of whom came in while we were there ) , so chose to sit outside , hoping rain would hold off , which luckily it did .

Steak pie , home made chips , mushy peas and gravy were absolutely excellent and much enjoyed as was the accompanying pint of Tirril ale . Wife had good , well filled sandwich with nice side salad and generous portion of home cooked chips . Food most enjoyed .

Was not being allowed to sit inside without being in middle of blokes lunchtime ale banter , due to tables being booked ( but no one came ) that took the edge off am afraid .

Food was excellent , lovely village and nice service . I think we will be back .

We did take our dog , so fully appreciate seating restructions limited to bar area .Fancy going back for pie night !!

Staying a couple of miles away from Kirkoswald, The Fetherston Arms was recommended to us, especially the famous 'Pie Night' (Thursday). The quality of the food was excellent, the service was courteous and welcoming and the value for money outstanding. Would agree with previous reports - book in advance to be sure! Thanks, ladies and gentlemen at 'The Fethers'!

Not to be missed. The quality of food is extremely good. Thursday night is "Pie Night" when the excellent home made pies are on special. Recommend booking a table as the place is always full. Currently doesn't serve food on Mondays or Tuesdays.

Was recommended this place by a friend and it certainly did not disappoint .

The food was lovely , freshly prepared and very reasonably priced....sadly the generous porttion sizes meant no room for pud ...though they did look tempting.

The decor was pitched just right too...lovely mis match of old tables and chairs...nice comfortable feel to the place , very relaxing....loved it.

It was very busy ( Saturday Evening ) so probably advisable to book in advance. It did have the feel of a restaurant rather than a pub ....but this may be different on the days when food is not served .

The bar staff were very attentive and remembered who you were....quite outstanding as it was so very busy ....well done indeed.

We will certainly return ...the pie evening sounds very inviting....

We visited this pub during our c2c. We were staying at a bunkhouse about a mile away. The food here is incredible and very good value for money. The beer is very good as well with guest ales on tap. Staff are very friendly and attentive. One thing to note is that the pub is very busy so if you intend to eat here make sure you book in advance or you will be waiting a while or be disappointed. The pub is set in a lovely village and many cyclists come through on their c2c, so you can have very good chats with people here too.
Definitely worth a visit, even if passing through.

We stayed about 10 mins outside of Kirkoswald. We visited the pub on our first day we had a couple of panninis and a couple of locally produced ales and ciders before we checked in at our accommodation we booked a table for the Thursday pie night.

We went on the Thursday pie night, being from wigan we thought we would see what they had to offer. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious, the portion sizes were brilliant this was good considering how hungry we were. When we asked for extra gravy it wasn't a problem. Overall it was great value for money. I would recommend booking a table as it was really busy when we went. Great little find.
