Not wishing to praise this place too highly or to give it a poor review. Our visit was on the spur of the moment. It had to be quick, Coffee, Sandwich and a small piece of Cake and for Barbara a Scone.

Modern, Clean and very spacious, the restaurant is more like a large refectory. Quite noisy as well. That is why we chose to sit outside on the veranda overlooking a stream from the old mill. Pleasant surroundings. I do feel some people have gone over the top about its natural beauty and settings though.

Price of Sandwich was a bit over the top at £4.95 everything else was reasonably priced and of good quality. Staff were polite, friendly and courteous.

Food eaten, and visit over we will return next time for the Lunches which looked very appetising and represented better value for money.

Thank you for taking the time to come and try out the riverside cafe at Jordans Mill here in Biggleswade, and also for writing us a fair review. We are a new attraction and are building a local following, as well as attracting visitors from further afield.
I am sorry that you were not blown away, but would hope that you try us again and have a great time when you do. Our gardens are new and coming on well, we have over 10,000 bulbs being planted in yhe next couple of weeks to give a lot more interest for the coming months. We also have many other events and things coming on to establish us as a place that anyone can come over and enjoy, so would certainly hope that you will come and see us again soon.

This was our second visit to the cafe. Our first was just for tea and cake but we liked the look of the lunches ... however, having already eaten lunch, we decided a return visit would be needed.

Our second visit was, of course, for lunch and we were not disappointed. We both chose the fish in a very nice tomato and basil sauce, which was excellent. The dish was served with a good portion of veg ... crisp and fresh. For £9 each, it was great value.

The staff were all very polite and obliging. The cafe itself has a nice timber framework but the tables and chairs are very modern ... it seems to work ok but does tend to be a bit echoey ... a few more soft furnishings may help.

The shop area has a fairly good selection but most of the flour comes from Oxfordshire? I had expected a more local flour ... e.g. Jordan's 'Mill"? (Reminds me, I must do a mill tour to see what the mill really is about.)

Overall, a very good lunch and definitely a place for another visit or two.

Thank you very much for your review of the mill here. I'm also glad that you came back for a second time to try our lunches. We try to offer freshly made, locally sourced meals and am glad that you also enjoyed this second trip.

Your comments are noted about the shop and the furnishings too. As such a new venue we are planning for the main area and have a few things coming on that may well help with the 'echoey' comment you made. Similarly, in the shop we do stock Stotfold Mill flour from about ten miles from here. We are doing lots with the shop, so do hope that it will be improving on your third trip to Jordans Mill!

Don't forget your loyalty card if you do come back as you can get your seventh coffee for free if you get the stamps marked at the counter.

I hope to see you here again soon. Our gardens will be open at the end of the month and will open up a whole new part of the mill experience, so do come again!

Myself and better half decided to visit at weekend. We arrived at 15:30 on Sunday afternoon and immediately impressed by the interior, scale and handsome Oak beams arching over a decked mezzanine outdoor area overlooking the lovely river Ivel. The immediate impression was good but we were more interested in coffee and cake.

The Cake we decided on was based on size so we opted for one slice of the very reasonably priced £2.25 Almond, Pistachio and Cardomen Victoria sponge, four layers with frosting surround and cream filling. To taste we agreed that it was dry and salty. The frosting was sweet and unlike me, I left more than a crumb on the plate. The decision to use cardomen was interesting but not to our taste. I would give it a 4/10 whereas my partner in crime suggested 5.

The latte and Cappuccino we ordered were small at £1.95 each a fair price. The bean used was Red Pelican (Strength 4). We both marked it a 5/10. Our main concern was that the cups were under-filled below the required level and not in the appropriate vessel for the beverage. My partner commented that her cappuccino had too much froth but we both agreed that the flavour profile of the coffee was average and 1 shot of espresso was sufficient for the size of cup ordered. We both agreed that we would not order another, particularly as the option of a flat white was not available on the menu.

The environment was clean, fresh and functional with commercial-like polished concrete floors but lacked the overall charm that the surroundings have. The cafeteria seems to geared towards self-service, its user-friendly but the staff service was passive but professional. One observation was that a member of staff approached the table behind ours to enquire if everything was satisfactory. A nice touch but service which might be extended to other diners within earshot. The weather on the day we visited was beautiful with a lovely autumnal breeze and the sound of running water in a very good interior/exterior space. We both agreed the setting was a 9 out of 10, but its a shame that the cake and coffee let it down.

We agreed that we would return to the area to explore the new garden scheme due to open soon but our walk would involve a diversion around the Riverside Cafe at Jordans Mill.

Thank you very much for taking the time to give us an honest and thorough review. We take seriously all comments and are looking at improving what we offer at every opportunity.
We have a wonderful location and the new heritage centre sits well within the overall scheme.
I am sorry that you left unimpressed by our cake offering, we are trying new recipes as well as the more traditional options and it is a shame that you did not like the sponge that you tried. Similarly I apologise for the coffees, one of which did look a little meagre in the photograph that you posted. Our staff have been fully trained by the barrista that supplied and maintains our machines and I believe that the cupware that we use meets with his exacting standards. Some options have been left off the hot drinks menu, a flat white for instance, as an Australian beverage originally, has only recently been cropping up in artisan coffee operations. We felt that simplicity would be best and so left it off the menu. If you had asked for one at the counter, we would have made you one so I will take that feedback further when we next review our signage for the cafe area. This is coming up soon as we have just opened the cafe in a full servery layout. This allows us to produce a wider range of hot foods, as well as now having a cake display table that gives a larger area to our sweet offerings.
I do hope that you will try Jordans Mill again and hope to impress more with each visit. The gardens will be opening by the end of October, bringing another activity to try here, and there is much more being lined up for 2014!

A nice cafe, good cakes. Hot meals can be a bit hit & miss but panini's, jacket potatoes etc all good. Little on the pricey side & queues can be long as tea/coffee served as you pay... Fantastic setting behind the mill with a sunny decked area next to the river.

Thank you for your honest review of your visit here to Jordans Mill. I hope that you will come again as we have lots of developments coming in the next few weeks.
Our servery is now fully up and running, with a separate cake display. This should produce a wider range of main meals as well as a wider selection of cakes. It is also a modification of the queuing system so should help with the busy times here.
We also have the gardens opening by the end of the month. This will give a whole new area to explore, as well allowing the possibility of unguided access to the Mill. Do look at our news page on our website for up to the minute information on all things happening over here at Jordans Mill.

I had a sandwich from here was lovely and fresh on site the cafe is a jordens shop with there selected cereals, jams, flour.
