We visited the White Horse this evening wondering what we would find, after having read a couple of the reviews on here. However, we all enjoyed our meals and thought the service was excellent.

We have eaten at the White Horse several times previously and indeed, in July 2011, our daughter and husband held their wedding reception in the 'barn', which is detached from the main building. The staff at the White Horse did a superb job on the wedding day and made it one to remember, for all the right reasons, for all those who attended.

We would not hesitate to recommend the White Horse to others.

We have been using "The White Horse" about four or five times a year, three or four years now, when staying with family in the locality and so expected the food and service to be as previous visits, that is excellent service and terrific food, but what a hugfe disappointment. We were totally unaware that the premise had changed hands and rightfully so expected a good meal and good service. How wrong could we be. On arrival the premises were about two thirds full, having not pre-booked asked if a table was available and were shown to one near the fireplace and told some one would be over to take our order, but not told when. After almost 30 minutes and no waitress I went to the bar, purchased our drinks and said that we were ready to order. Again " someone will come to the table to take your order". We sat a further ten minutes before I was able to carch a waitress who was dealing with a nearby couple who had sent their meals back. After returning those meals to the kitchen she came for our order. My wife ordered the salmon which according to the menu came with a salad. I order the Steak and Ale pie with new potatos and peas.
We finished our drinks, still no sign of our meals, so I purchased more drinks at the bar, these almost finished and still no meal, so I went to find a member of staff who I asked if they had sent someone to catch the salmon as we had waited almost an hour. Surprise! surprise! our meals then appeared, oh! dear, they had obviously just been left somewhere and forgotten, both were barely warm. The salmon was served with peas, cauliflower, broccoli and new potatos, a strange salad but it was cold. The fish had been grossly over cooked, was only luke warm, totally flavourless, with a sauce that had no flavour at all. My steak pie, luke warm, served with cold peas, cauliflower, broccoli, new potatos and CHIPS, unwanted, unordered and cold chips. Not only the worse meal I have ever had at the White Horse, but one of the worse anywhere. At no time during our meal, did anyone come near to our table to see if the meals were alright. We ate what we could, as by now it was too late to go anywhere else and decided to forgo any dessert. Reluctantly I went to the bar to pay where I made my complaint saying what I thought of the meals and the chef that cooked them, to be told our chef is on holiday, we have had a of complaints, our proper chef come back Monday, that however did not make me wish to return.
Such a waste of a lovely setting, we will never return there, it like a ship without a captain, the staff were wandering aimlesslywith no system

Met friends here for midweek lunch. It was their first visit and we hadn't been for about 3 years. When we arrived at 12.30 we were the only customers. Got our drinks at bar and sat down at a table with one menu on it. We had to take menus off another table so we at least had 2 between the 4 of us. After 10 mins no one had come to take our order so we asked if we had to order at the bar. The young lady behind the bar said no, she would send a waitress over. 20 minutes later, still no one had come to take our order and we noticed people at other tables, who had come in after us, were being attended to. Asked again and eventually order was taken by the only girl who was waiting on tables. Food arrived and looked OK but my husband ordered a Cumberland Sausage bagette which arrived with one small ordinary supermarket type sausage in it - definitely not Cumberland Sausage! Then he went to get another round of drinks and young chap behind bar took order and send he would bring them over - they never came. When we asked him where our drinks were he looked totally blank - we had obviously been forgotten ... again. Very disappointing experience all round. The White Horse used to be an excellent, very popular country pub. This place needs a decent Manager to organise the young staff who clearly haven't got a clue how to run a busy pub. It won't be busy much longer if they don't do something soon - we won't be returning!

Visited on the 15th of February, regular customers but had not been since change of ownership. We ordered our regular meal the starter of Pate had what appeared to be a shop packet shaped piece served with toast that had probably waved to the toaster on the way out of the kitchen accompanied with red cabbage this was sent back as not worth five pounds! Main course of Rib-eye was fair however hard chips, soggy salad and a watery blue cheese sauce was not very appetising. We did complain bitterly but we were still charged way over fifty pounds for a very disappointing meal, bring back the original chef or we will never be eating here again!
