Stayed here for one night before boarding expedition cruise around Svalbard. Room in the annexe, clean comfortable although bunk beds!! Room equipped with kitchenette for self catering. Reception staff friendly and breakfast buffet good. Would stay there again.

The only 4 stars "looking" hotel in the city of Longyearbyen , in Spitsbergen Island of Norway. Is not cheap at more than 300 Euro per night in summer , but when you are only 900 km from the North Pole you must be prepared!!
The rooms are minimalistic as often happens in Scandinavia but fonctional and hi tech. free Wi fi , and generous breakfast. The re is no porter service so ask room in the level of the reception to avoid the stairs carrying luggages. The shoes must be removed but only boots and "heavy duty" treking shoes. There is a confusion on that because the sign in the door is not clear which shoes are Ok and which NOT.

Room tip: rooms in the reception level at any of the building to avoid the stairs

As there are a limited choice of hotels in Spitsbergen, it shows on the hotel staff attitude. What is good: Location and kitchenette in apartments. What is not good: Breakfast service, quality of beds, housekeeping, and limited options of activities. Will try Basecamp next time.

Room tip: Lots of activities available if you try from outside the hotel (e.g. Basecamp or svalbardbooking.com)

We stayed at the Radisson Blu and Spitsbergen Hotel. The Radisson is newer and the rooms are bigger, but it lacks the traditional feel of the Spitsbergen.

You have to leave your gun in the lobby but the keys are behind the reception desk(!)

The people in the room above us seemed to keep falling over and the floors are not very soundproof, so I would suggest that you go for an upper floor for quiet.

Breakfast was great but I wouldn't suggest you put jam on your beans like one of the guests.

Very nice and modern hotel in the "kingdom of ice". It is the best accommodation in Spitsbergen but there are not so many hotels at all. Anyway it is all about the scandinavian quality and fine food. The rooms are spacious, cosy and I loved their bathroom with a wide choice of shower gels&shampoos :-) But if you are not travelling just in the middle of the summer the main thing you will appreciate is that there is not cold in the hotel :-)

Room tip: Do NOT leave anything hanging from your window, it is prohibited everywhere in Spitsbergen because of the polar bears.
